Although I rarely do listen to rap, I do believe it is still a form of musical expression nevertheless. I say yes it is.

Personally, I think rap is music. It's not my favorite type, for sure, but it's a way of expressing yourself through rhythm.

    Do I like rap? No.
    Is it music? Well...

People try to make Rap a lifestyle (particularly blacks), but there's a range of rap now... from Eminem to Albanian rap. Even so, I suppose it's now considered to be a music genre and therefore, music. Even if I wouldn't approve of someone listening to it while I'm in the same room as them, I can't say it isn't music.

Are you serious? Of course rap is music. I don't listen to much of it myself but this question is absolutely ridiculous. If it's not music, then what is it? Just reading this has pissed me off! Come on dude, it's obviously music and to say it isn't is just ignorant and stupid.

I don't like rap, but it is a form of music although to be honest its more like bad poetry. Though i'd rather listen to rap then dance/techno stuff.

Yes, it is a form of music. Why wouldn't it be? It has rhythm and (often) instrumental background beats. Not to mention a bunch of musical styles and bands have at least been influenced by rap and hip-hop (Beastie Boys, Linkin Park, Bloodhound Gang and Rage Against The Machine to name a few).

I'd say no. Well, there's music made, but I still say no.

    Bad comparison.

    Yes, it is.

Now whether it's good music or not is a different discussion.

This isn't about whether you like rap or not, this is about whether rap is a form of music. Dantheman, you knew this, so I advise you to stop post-whoring.

It is not like that. I love Beastieboys(the only rap group I like), but that's it. I don't think that is music also, so don't take conclusions so quickly.

Pardon me for saying this, but that is a very ignorant question.
Just because you may not like a style of music one bit certainly does not mean it's not a form of music.

    There's rhythm.
    There's harmony.
    There's lyrics.
    There's meaning.
    It's music.

Not really. The point I was making is that Coldplay and U2, while I don't like them, are obviously music, just as rap is.

That is a way to compare them. But there's a HUGE difference between rap and U2 or Coldplay. There's a HUGE difference between U2 and Coldplay. So, that's why I think it isn't a good comparison...

Then why don't you explain why you don't think rap is music?

I think music is a way of expression. There are exceptions in rap groups like Fort Minor or Linkin' Park, etc.

The rap nowadays is all about drugs, sex, voilence, money, shooting, etc, etc. At least, that's what rap has become.

So? Almost all of AC/DC's discography is about sex. Does that mean it's not music?
