Well common stereotypes say the boy should be older than the girl. Also, it doesn't matter how old you are, if the kid is under 18 it's still statutory rape. ;D

Speaking of statutory rape, omfg there was this Law & Order on last night where they were going to nab this kid for having sex with his 15-year-old girlfriend and she ending up beating her mother to death with a lamp and the girl was like screaming at Olivia all like "YOU ARE SUCH A *****" and it freaked me out.

Since most societies seem to dictate that the guy should be the older one then yes, it can be looked down on and seen as scandalous. So in this case I would say your sarcasm is misplaced. It can be an issue when the girl is the older one. Stupid society and its idiotic attitudes.

My sarcasm's not misplaced because two years isn't much of a difference. Plus the ages for each grade vary slightly so she could very well be only a year older.

 

I agree that it shouldn't be about conformity, but it IS. Whether you agree with it or not doesn't change the fact that the unwritten rules of society do affect the individual, especially in a High School environment. If you were to date a male student who was two years younger than yourself then you would be mocked and people would make comments and gossip etc etc, obviously these can all be ignored, but it doesn't change the fact that it happens.

Whilst we can disagree with (and to some extent fight) the sheep mentality over social cliches and standards, that doesn't erase them. They do exist.

It doesn't matter whether the two years is not a big difference, nor does it matter if she is only technically a year older than him, it is a difference of two school grades, which when you are in school is pretty big.

It is the idea and mentality behind it, that it is looked down on for girls to date guys who are younger. I think it is a bullshit idea and personally I think as long as the two people are happy then that is all that really counts, but that doesn't change the fact that 9/10 something like this will cause some form of controversy.

That is just how it is.
