That ending was weak. That's not how you do a sequel hook! The sequel is supposed to be a continuation of the series, not a continuation of the first book. You will not be getting any more of my money.
Are you speaking about the book's ending or the movie's ending? Because I have to admit the movie kinda jacked it up.
No, the book. The ending didn't feel like the end of part 1 in a trilogy, it felt like the end of a chapter in a standalone book. Ending it at the end of the Games and going to the victory ceremony in Catching Fire would have worked much better, though it still wouldn't have been a good ending.
Spoiler I am wondering, and am I the only one? Wondering how the next movie will cover up the first's mistake, that scene in which Seneca Crane is locked in a room with no escape, forced to eat the berries. They changed the method of his execution: in the novel he was hanged. This might seem a minor change, but it affects Katniss' trial prior to the second hunger games; in which she hangs a Crane ragdoll, implying that he was indeed hanged. Now, since the movies had him killed off by the berries, they will be unable to pull off that scene. There are two possibilities a) They will change her actions, she won't hang but kill the doll via other means b) They will have her hang the dummy all the same, and chock it up to her not knowing how Crane was executioned And b) is a possibility, she perhaps didn't know in the novel either, assumed he was hanged maybe. It will be interesting to see how they cover up their fuck-up, having taken liberties with the book. I assume I'm the first to notice this. But perhaps I am thinking myself too self-important in thinking that.
They didn't actually show him dying or eating the berries. Perhaps he does not eat the berries and they mercy-kill him by hanging.
What...when was this? I know this happens in the book...I really need to read them again. But I trust Mrs. Collins she knows whats shes doing.
I actually felt the same way too. It just ended so abruptly, like she completely panicked and had no idea how to finish it. And it felt like Katniss didn't change at all. On a whim, I did decide to get the second book. I'm half way through, and it's pretty okay. My hatred for Katniss has basically turned to indifference. I don't hate her, but I still don't like her. But, that kind of made me lose a bit of interest. I mean, even when I hated her in the first book, I cared about the story because I wanted to see her crash and burn. Now, I just don't care.
