....or Bonfire Night or Firework Night, whatever you want to call it.

And it's only 4 days away for us Brits.

So, are you going to be setting any fireworks off or lighting any bonfires? I used to love having bonfires.... before the fire brigade started hosing them down every year. D: My friends and I used to do the stupidest things. Like walking over the bonfires, for example. xD

This year I'm going to my uncle's house to set off some fireworks. :/

i think, but people don't make it a big deal.
and it's really easy to buy them from places.
my friends always sneak them in from mexico. ;)
and people don't get busted too often.
but when they do it sucks...

So, technically it's just Hallowe'en without the trick or treating?

Wow, you Brits are so original

Guy Fawkes is NOTHING like Hallowe'en. >.>

I'm pretty sure it came before Hallowe'en anyway.

Ok, Hallowe'en was created in the 18th - 19th century.

Guy Fawkes just sounds like an unnofficial holiday and an excuse for teenagers to do some underage alcoholism.

You tell me which came first :D

Guy Fawkes is celebrated because a man (named Guy Fawkes, shock horror) attempted to blow up the houses of parliament in 1606.

I'd say Guy Fawkes came first. :]

Here's my question... Why would Guy Fawkes be praised for something like that where in modern times he'd be considered a terrorist? I have trouble understanding English customs.

Probably partly because he failed spectacularly. The British love the underdog. Also the king wasn't the most popular in history. He wasn't really a fan of religious tolerance.

I'm British and I have trouble understanding some of the customs!:D

    It's like that rhyme says..

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
    The gunpowder, treason and plot,
I know of no reason why gunpowder treason
    Should ever be forgot.

    We're not praising him per se.. just remembering him. ^_^;
