help.....

i have two things i need help with.

1. i am trying to use a gif as my avatar but it comes out as an image. what do i do. here is the link to it: http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u252/steve_wo/naruto8ny5xq.gif

2. i am tring to add a person to my friends list but it wont work, cause it has a symbol. it says check in the members list. i do, and find him. in his menu, i click add to buddy list... and it doesnt work. any ideas?
