First of all, I'd like to say that your sig saying saying "92% of teens have moved onto rap. If you are part of the 8% that still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your signature" is just a load of bull ****. First of all, rap is real music. It's just a different type of music that doesn't always use traditional instruments to make the instrumental sounds. Not only that, but over exaggerated statistics like these just show that the person who wears them in their sigs are just ignorant enough to believe such rubbish or how much he/she tries to stress a point. And rap isn't always about a certain type of thing. I mean, sure, the radio and television may make it seem that way, but if you dig deeper, you can find some really meaningful songs that can show that hip hop isn't horrible. Just by listening to what's on the radio or tv, you can't tell if the genre is good or not. Not only that, but the rap pioneers such as KRS-1, LL Cool J and others fought hard to make there even have rap to be on the radio or television and for you just to come out of no where and say it's not real music? For what? Why? Sure there are songs that aren't so meaningful, but there are others that show that hip hop can become deep, meaningful, and has nice word-play in it. In other words, you gotta just dig deeper to understand more about a genre or anything else. It's kinda like putting a stereotype on a group of people like saying all blond people are stupid. In conclusion, just try to get to know something (even music) a little bit better before judging it. Y'know?

If he's so ignorant, then why do you care what he thinks?

I never said he was. I said people with over-exaggerated statistics like that probably are or are trying to stress a point.

Good rant. There's only one real problem though. You assume that he hasn't listened to any non-mainstream rap, but you honestly can't know that. Still, the statistic is bull, good job with this.

Yeah, I agree I completely...why do people around here dislike rap so much? Because their ignorant of its real history? I'd be willing admit that ever since the 2000's began, rap in terms of quality has gone WAYYYYYYYYYY down. Now, its all about good beats and ****** lyrics about drugs, sex, crime whatever. BUT THAT ISNT ALL OF ****ING RAP. Mos def, Nas, Talib Kweli, A Tribe Called Quest, Dead Prez, LL COOL J are all memorable classics who earned their titles through great hits. Just because they're from the 80's or 90's doesn't mean they're automatically as bad as like...soulja boy.

Dont be mad VGN, some people only see the tip of the iceberg.

first of all, thats been in my sig for a while and i need to change it. secondly, i now listen to rap music thanks to the artist Estelle, and i only dislike the rap that is completely about having sex, and things like thugs and gangs. so 62% of rap is dead to me, the rest is fine.

I know, but he mustn't have listened to the non-mainstream rap to think it's not real music. If he didn't, then something must be wrong.

You just ruined any argument that rap fans could have had. You are against a user stereotyping rap artists, so you stereotype rockers? Not the best course of action...

Hey! Don't diss Soulja Boy. D: If it wasn't for people like him, we wouldn't have anything to dance to, and he brings the fun back in hip hop and I like that about him.

Since when does it matter? Let him be an idiot. There's some genuinely good rap out there. Even though I'm not a fan of the genre there are like 3 or 4 songs that I like.

Well, I think we're on different pages. I like lyrical rap. Rap about politics, ideas, life. Normal stuff. Not because I can get a dance out of it. I can do that with any rap song. And hes right up there with Flo-rida, Mimz, Chamillionaire and all those other one-two hit wonders. LL-Cool J and Souljaboy are in two different leagues.

Okay, but to clarify, I agree with you, I was just pointing out that were I you I would've ignored it, like so many other things.

I honestly think he's over-rated too. xD There were much better lesser-known rappers at the time he was made famous. Crank 'Dat was okay the first few times, but it gets annoying. Plus after hearing white kids try to sing it everyday in school, I couldn't respect it as much.

    My thoughts exactly.

It's annoying how no matter how short the conversation about rap, someone invariably mentions race. I mean to say, it does have a role to play in everything, but it really isn't worth mentioning.

Well come on. Gotta cut him some slack. He's kind of an inspiration. Sure, before I thought he was garbage too, but after learning more about him, I learned that he took the non-lyrical path on purpose. Not because it's the only thing he knew how to do. First of all, he's been making music since he was 13 (which was about 2004?) and he's proven all the haters wrong who said he was wack, who said he's not gonna get signed by a record label and all that. He just ignored them and keep making dance music (and some actually good underground songs I'll show 'em to you if you want) and it was unusual at the time since most underground artists were just making meaningful music like you like and he just made dance music that made him stand out. He eventually got signed to Collipark Music and Interscope Records and he proved the haters wrong. They also said his first album wouldn't sell a lot, but it went platnium. So, he basically shows that you can do whatever you want if you put your mind to it. And he does his dance music to try to stand out. Heh...kinda ironic, don't you think?

Yeah...I agree. But you do have to admit when you think of rock, Lenny Kravitz is usually the last to come to your mind right?
