The graphics look great. The story has potential to be great.

But...disney world rides as summons/attacks? And your keyblade turning into two guns? Is anyone else underwhelmed by this?

You have to remember KHIII was shown prematurely to basically tell people that it was being worked on, I'm sure we'll see more in the future.

I'm not really sure how that works as underwhelming. It's just what they've shown, it's like looking at BBS once, seeing there's a fire based command style and saying the game is uncreative

Unimpressed by the two thirty second trailers that don't even begin to scratch the surface? No. I'm not.

I'm not talking about the full game (hence the "SO FAR" in the title of this thread), I'm talking about what they've shown so far. It's obvious that there's gonna be more to it, but I'm just asking if anyone is at all looking forward to using disney rides as attacks or turning the keyblade into two handguns.

I think the keyblades transforming into guns sounds awesome. It adds variety to gameplay.

I'm not crazy about the idea of summoning attractions, but I've never cared about the summons in any game before, so maybe this will bring something that could make it more enjoyable. It's something different, which is something to look forward too. I mean if we were still summoning Simba and Bambi people would be complaining because nothings changed.

You're asking a biased audience. Most of the people here have been anticipating this title since Kingdom Hearts II came out... We're going to jump aboard the hype train (or Disney train, as it were, heh) at even an image from KH3, much less a trailer.

But it's quite alright to not be launched into hype-mode, especially this early on. Waiting for more news, not even considering release, will be agonizing for those of us who live/breath KH. It also tends to raise unrealistic expectations, which, if KH3 is stellar, will still be unsatisfied. I'm one of the people whose heart races at new KH3 stuff; I'm excited to see how the Keyblade transformations & Disney rides work out, obviously if they're not implemented nicely it'll be a problem, but I have faith. They're neat concepts.

I suspect this is one of the reasons I didn't care for BBS. I was eating up every scrap of information that was released up till the game was released, and when I finally played it there was no way it could have met my expectations. Likewise, I fell out of KH in the year or so leading to DDD and wasn't reading any of the news meaning I had no expectations, and DDD happens to be one of my favorite KH titles.

I might recommend not following KH3 as heavily, given how important of a game it is to a lot of people, and the last thing I would want is to be disappointed by something that I may not be otherwise. Still, I think it's a little early to be disappointed.

While I think it's premature to make any judgment calls about the game itself, I do think it's silly that they chose this foot to lead with. Ok, so we know the game was announced before it was ready. But that means what we're seeing is some of the first stuff they chose to work on. Why Disney rides?

Not as much as it would add if they calmed down about the frickin' Keyblade and made spells worth half a fresh damn, thus capitalizing on the projectiles that already exist in the game and making any kind of ranged/caster lifestyle viable. It's supposed to be an action-RPG, not an action-sometimes-you-can-throw-an-icicle-if-you're-bored-I-guess. And this series is well overdue for some decent light spells, that'd be something fun to show off.

I don't think it's terribly puzzling that they choose to start by featuring gameplay. Other parts of the game, like cinematics/story-related scenes & Disney worlds are more than likely still in motion. They seem to be innovating a lot on the appearance and gameplay of the title, and thus, that's what they would show off. As the game goes further into development I'm sure we'll see more story related trailers.

In my mind, the three major things shown by the two trailers are:
    • New look of the game
    • Disney rides
    • Continuation of flowmotion, i.e. interacting with your environment during battle
    • Keyblade transformation
The Disney rides have definitely been more prominent than the latter two points, but they serve to show off gameplay and the look of the game.

I didn't mean gameplay in general, so much as... Disney rides wtf.

It does seem like a strange addition to the games in general, but I look at them as a sort of revamped version of KHII's limits, just... more integrated into Disney.

To be honest, I don't really care about summons unless I use Tinker Bell in KHI or when using them in the Underworld Arena in KHII.

As for the guns, It looks very cool to me, though I hope that we can get to see a few more others.

A more customizable KH experience would be nice. Something on the level of customization of BBS, but even more so. Being able to mold Sora into several types of unofficial "classes" or play-styles would be nice and rather refreshing. Being able to switch between a power-heavy Sora, a magic-heavy Sora (more mp and less mp cool-down time), a quick-paced and flowmotion-centric Sora (fast attacks, mostly revolving around flowmotion), or any mix of the three would be sweet. And not necessarily in the shape of drive forms, but instead, possibly commands that raise your stats in either of the three directions, and when you max out that command, you keep the stats for good (sorta like the ability system in BBS).

For example, let's say Sora has Strike Raid as a command, and it gives you +2 speed (for the flowmotion-centric Sora) as long as you have it installed, but when you max out the command, you get to keep those stats. Does that make sense?

Goddamn, I should work for Square.

That reminds me of FFV's system. When you max out a class, your jack-of-all-trades class gets stat bonuses. I'm for it, but I doubt Squeenix will be that smart. Many of the upgrades and extra features of KH2 and onward are made to look cool, not round out your combat options.

That's true, especially when you consider that we haven't seen the accessory system since KH2. Perhaps they're trying to do that to make it more accessible to the younger audience?

I'm sure, but in my experience you don't have to do much to impress the kiddies. I'll admit, when I played FFVII as a young 'un I had no idea what I was doing, I just put the shinies on the guys and then they did the things, but it was still cool. I still made it through. I wish we could have our cake and eat it too, not constantly have to bite the dumbing-down that devs think kids need and adults don't mind just so the game will sell. But this is digressing, and I've ranted enough about it. I think SE should know that their choice of reveal seems weird to us, but I also think they should be given time to show more of the game before we make a judgment call.

Permanent stat boost tied to commands sounds like a good idea but it's WAY too abusable. Look at how hard it is to get a bunch of stat boosting items in KH1 or 2.
But what about gaining experience for each stat based on the commands you use? So like using a bunch of blitz attacks nets you strength EXP, successfully blocking could raise defense.
You could even get rid of standardized leveling with this and just make every stat level up to 99. Or standard levels could give you abilities, HP boosts, accessory slots etc.
Still abusable, but only as abusable as power-leveling
