I've lost all hope in RPGs...

The last real RPG(by which I mean I don't count FE: PoR, and SPM rela RPGs) I remember actually enjoying was Tales of Symphonia and .Hack GU(and if you count it, TP). Ever since then every RPG I get sucks horribly. Examples: DoC, FFXII, KHII, Dragon Quest IX, FF:Crystal Chronicles, Rouge Galaxy, SO3 etc. Now I used to be a big RPG fan, but lately they've just been horrible game after horrible game. Anyone else feel this way?

As for me, I've put all of my remaining hope into two games: FFVII:CC and Lost Odyssey. Mostly because both are in a way apart of the series that really got me into RPGs(sure, Legaia was my first RPG, but if it wasn't for FFVII I never woudl've continued with them). Crisis Core reflects on my favorite character of FFVII and Lost Odyssey is being made by the true knig of RPGs himself, the man who made FFVII and FFVI. If those fail then I'll give up all hope and the last one I purchase will be FFvsXIII.

A lot of people have a point in their lives where they no longer enjoy what they usually would. Guess you've grown pass RPGs.

    KH2 sucked? Wow.

You enjoyed Tales of Symphonia more than KH2? And SO3? *blinks* Evidently our taste in RPGs are different. I found Tales of Symphonia absolutely horrible. Battle system wasn't too shabby; I expected as much from Namco, but you actually liked the story more than KH2? Or SO3? Wow.

RPGs have always been doing well in the industry; I think I agree with xekushi; maybe you're just not feeling the RPG scene anymore.

EDIT: I'm waiting for Shirokishi as well (White Knight Story). They're the same makers as Rogue Galaxy though, and Dragon Quest IX, so perhaps you may want to skip over that one as well, shadowjak.

Well, it was only a few months ago I doubt I could grow out of something that fast. Besides, I'm well past the stage where I grow out of things.

Dirge of a Cerberus was an RPG ever since it came out. You take the roll of Vincent, increase his stats, etc which is what makes a game an RPG. Lost Odyssey is looking good, however I don't buy into hype. White Knight Story, I've never heard of it... Explain it to me...

KHII was absolutely horrible in terms of story compared to KH1, it could've been done alot better. I perfectly agree with IGNs 7.6 score.

Symphonia was good becuase it was different, it didn't take on any of the cliche's. The battles were meh except the boss battles which were extremely fun. But thta's not what I look for in an RPG, I look for great story with Symphonia had. It was different I guess, and barley had any of the normal cliches. SO3's story was horrible, if it was on it's own I may like it, but it absolutely ruined the other two games in the series. The gameplay got repeatitive and annoying, the story was predictable, and the voice acting created the sound that made me want to punch kittens.

Again, I doubt I'm not on the RPG scene anymore, it's possible I could've grown up a bit from them, but I doubt it. I love playing good ones and always go back to play ToS and FFX. And I absolutley loved TP, but again that's rarely considered an RPG. RPGs are starting to focus more on gameplay and forget about story is why I'm starting to dislike them. They're all the same odl crap now and it just makes me roll my eyes in boredom. Hell, DoC had a more original story than most RPGs. I used to be a fan of Xenosaga and Gears, but Episode Three got wya too messed up and I said screw it. So yeah, after telling you all this maybe I'm not on the RPG scene anymore...

By definition, the stats thing and you being able to control the characters outcome makes a game an RPG. Zelda does not have those qualitys hence why I don't count it...

And by any chance, have you played any Suikoden games, shadowjak? If you're into story and less gameplay, there's a series for you. Lots and lots of characterization in those games for you.

Except IV. Let's avoid Suikoden IV.
