Not Shown: 4Chanspeak. Screw you 4chanspeak.
Also, Arabic and Tagalog should be switched.
And yes, Foreskin, you have me on record admitting that French is cooler than English.

You actually already admitted it once so, this changes nothing.
    Also, that graph is subjective.

Even as a native English speaker, I can say that at the least German is easier to learn. Less weird exceptions and a simpler syntax.

It is cool, though. Anything I say in German sounds like I'm raging.

I firmly believe that English is the hardest language in the world to learn, considering all of the rules and then the exceptions to those rules. I have found that German and Spanish are fairly easy in comparison.

Russian isn't really all that difficult either, and I think that it just takes some good concentration to learn it properly.

For me, English is really easy to learn. I found more difficulty in learning Spanish than English. Spanish and Portuguese have more exceptions and rules than English.

Well, I still didn't learn the whole English and Spanish language, but for me, it's easier learn English than Portuguese/Spanish. Just my opinion though.

Also, WHERE IS PORTUGUESE IN THE FIRST POST? >|

I beg to differ. I think English is one of the easier languages to learn, because you hear it often, and honestly, the exceptions are learned as long as you stick to it.

A language that is very difficult to learn, I think, is Norwegian. Because the spoken language varies a lot, we have a ton of synonyms depending on when you use certain words, and pronunciation is probably the hardest. (Considering we have 29 letters, and æ, ø, and å are commonly used.)

Learning a language =/= Mastering it.
Learning English is really easy. Mastering it is a whole other story. I find mastering the romance languages to be much easier for example, while learning and sticking to them takes some time.

lol, I love that Urdu is down there in the corner by itself.

And I'll admit that Spanish really sucks.

Seeing as how it was made by a native English speaker with Dutch heritage who took Latin in high school, me, yes it is.
    Where's Oerbian?
    ^THIS^
See what I said about Klingon.
Agreed. I found the various grammatical rules in Latin much easier to understand than those in any modern language that I've dabbled in, but they were still harder to figure out than, say, English. Had I grown up in Ancient Rome, I would be in language Heaven.

    Down there with 4chanspeak.
    Screw you, Urdu.

Knowing this language grants you access to an entire subcontinent that has been a historic crossroads and is rife with a very rich culture I shall have you know!

Hindi-Urdu would be more appropriate because they are extremely mutually intelligible, the only difference really is social and the writing system (a bit like Serbian and Croatian).

Giving some time I shall comprise my own graph because this is extremely fun and I applaud the effort taken into this graph and linguistic interest, even if the graph is relatively subjective!

The level of difficulty of learning a language is completely subjective. For example, I imagine that for a native Estonian speaker, Finnish would be much easier to learn than it would be for a Spaniard to learn.

And Arabic is on the wrong side of the cool/sucks spectrum. /completelyobjectivefact

A map of the official languages of European nations with comparative languages.

    Blank circle - Germanic
    Filled circle - Romance
Blank lozenge - Finno-Ugric (Uralic family or "gosh darn it these languages are complicated as all heck")
    Filled lozenge - Slavic
    X - Other
    (Maltese - Afro-Asiatic family (e.g. Arabic, Hebrew) )
(Irish - Goidelic (Celtic branch of the Indo-European family) (e.g. Manx, Scottish Gaelic) )
    (Greek - Hellenic (Indo-European family) )
(Turkish - Turkic family (e.g. Uzbek, Kazakh) )
(Basque - Language isolate whose orthography makes it look angrier than German if that is even possible)

NOTE: Comparative language Esperanto is in fact an artificially constructed language.
S-C is Serbo-Croatian which is currently being called four different names because of LINGUISTIC SOCIOPOLITICAL BALKANIZATION.

Oh my god, I have linguistically nerded over this thread. Why did in the world did you have to create a thread about languages in the Spam Zone. Now it is ruined with my extreme linguistic silliness and geeking.

To me, Spanish is a b*tch to learn, but German is really easy. (I'm still bad at both of the languages.)

Maybe Spanish is a b*tch to learn because my Spanish teacher doesn't know how to teach, I dunno.

I really really would like to learn Latin. I just always find myself in situations where I'm like there is definitely a Latin phrase that I could use right now and it would be awesome but then I have nothing >:
this is probably why i have no friends
