Okay, so just recently we just watched the movie "Rent", the broadway version. I thought it was an interesting play and I remebered it was turned inot a movie afew years ago. I searched and saw movie clips of some of the songs from the motion picture.

This got me to think, which is better in general:
    The orignal play
    OR
    The motion picture.

They've been doing this for many famous plays like Grease and Hairspray (still wating for Avanue Q) and each version have their own advantages. In plays, you can feel the energy from the actors, it's live which means no cuts, and it feels more personal. Movies can add scenes, make orignal scenes more interesting (e.g. The tango in "Tango Moreen), and well cut.

    What do you pefer?

    Personally, live.

    woot! First reply.

Um... personally live theatres, you get to feel the liveness and emotion of the production.

I havent heard of the movie "Rent" so I cant judge on that. But it sort of depends on what the movie/production is made for. Some movies wouldnt go well as Live Productions and others would. Billy Elliot is better as a live production not a movie in my opinion.

It was well made. I think they said it was their last ever productions on broadway. They also said they put in a lot of the original cast. It was well cut and had good video quality and good sound.

Well, I'm not really a fan of plays (too low-budget/too few effects for me), but if I had to choose, I would say movie, because in a movie, not only can they do more and cut it better, but if you need to go to the bathroom, or get some food, or something like that, you can pause it. You can watch it whenever you want, over and over again, without buying additional tickets. You can skip a part you don't like. Plus, a bonus for me, you don't have to sit in a crowded theater filled with hundreds of people, any one of which can start doing something (talking on cell phone, flash pictures, etc) that can ruin the play, or distract the actors, or annoy you.

This decision might be a bit biased because I'm an actress, but I have to say live theatre. If something is meant for the stage, that's where it should stay. Not that the movies aren't any good, I just think that theatre could get a little more respect from Hollywood.

Live theater can be... fun, but movies are what I love! I have to make an exception for The Lion King though. I loved that move, but the theater performance was even better!

I really can't choose. I haven't seen a PLAY play, but I've seen musicals. When you see it live, you feel like you're actually there. When you watch a movie, it seems like it actually happened.
    Arrgghhh, I can't choose. ><

Live because (in musicals) Live music is always better than recorded music and if it isn't then I have to question if the person(s) can really sing/play or not.
