Every time I see a marching band, I get sad. I think, "one wrong choice, and that could have been me out there." When I was in eighth grade, I played the alto saxophone. My grandparents bought me that saxophone, and they loved to hear me play. You know who else loves to hear an eighth grader play a saxophone? No one. Mostly 'cause it's a horn, and they have one volume setting, obnoxiously loud. That's the problem with horns. Like, a guitar, you can quietly strum, not bother people. But you can't be like, "hey, guys, keep watching your movie. I'll be, like, ten feet over here quietly practicing my sax. Doesnn't work. Now I play guitar, 'cause I like playing music, but I also like having friends. Me and my friends like to go camping, sit around a campfire, get drunk, and sing songs that we like, and that's a great time. Somebody wanders over from another campground with their guitar, they are in the circle. Somebody waltzes over with passion, classical training, and a spit valve, keep on hiking, kenny g. Maybe there's a renaissance fair down the trail. Keep playing that horrible melody. I hope some wolves hear it and hate it as much as I do. I want to hear one last high "g" cut short and know that justice was served in the forest. That being said, I have two small children, and when they're in high school, I'm gonna force them to be in the marching band all four years, 'cause I love my kids, and while they're in high school, I don't want them to do drugs or have sex. That joke's called "'tuba' is just another word for abstinence Dan Cummins - Crazy with a Capital F :)
You're right marching band is reely nerdy 90% of the time, depending on what you play. I play snare on the drumline though and I think it's pretty fun. Everyone adores the drumline and thinks they're reely cool unlike the rest of the band lol. In fact I probably wouldn't b in band if it wasn't for drumline. Everything else in band is boring and lame...
I like being oblivious. I don't know if the people at my school like out school's band or not. And you're wrong. Being in a band is not nerdy. It's geeky.
I play alto saxophone, and I absolutely hate marching band. I made sure I wasn't in it, I like regular band better, because I'm still a nerd, but not as much as a nerd in marching band. I play other instruments too, but I played saxophone in 4th grade..so.. :/
90% ha thats funny everyone that has a social life in my school is in marching band and btw you can play the sax at more then one volume trust me
Thank you But seriously our school's music program is always the best in the area and we have a really good and large marching band. We haven't gotten anything lower then a superior rating at a competition in like 25+ years.
We're big and good too but for marching band we do festival class... which is basically a lowest competition and we always come in first.
Thank you. It's called control. When I first started playing I only had one volume, but with good practice and effort you can be FF or PP.
I play the trumpet and i can play a high c at pp and get a b out at ppp but that is tough to play quietly.
I find it very entertaining how people take stuff seriously in the spam folder :p I don't really care, but sax is awesome (yes, the instrument)
You know what's really fun? Going into a grocery store and stopping the music for a split second, then watching while all the old marching band kids stumble and trip.
