Kim Jong-Il is insane. I've always said it. I just hope that we can avoid a war, at least until we are finished with the ones we have, one way or another. If we do go to war, though, we would need to vastly change our strategies.

Personally, though, I can't think of a way to make them stop without a war. And they do need to stop. Especially because:
which is easily within nuclear strike range of Israel, Europe, the US, etc.

**** nukes. I'm serious. They do nothing except threaten the existence of the human race. Everybody including the US needs to just chill out.

Unless every country in the world can agree to get rid of every nuke, it is something we are going to have to live with. And there is nothing to stop unsavory elements getting their hands on the components and materials needed to make their own.

You would be surprised. I mean, you would be REALLY surprised about what people start wars over.

Especially as we are on the verge of one RIGHT NOW. With North Korea pulling out of the truce with South Korea there may be a military offensive. Although this may be a good thing. The United Nations might actually do something more than use harsh language (i.e. sanctions) against North Korea. They might, you know, remove the regime that is not doing anyone anywhere any good.

It feels like the UN is turning into another League of Nations >_>

When you put it that way, a Third World War doesn't seem all that far off. Which scares me because of the amount of nukes obviously incompetent people have in their control. Nobody should be trusted with that kind of power. Of course, it's this mentality along with human greed that is fueling it, so unless everyone makes peace with each other (lol yeah right ) we are ****ed.

Hopefully, the majority of the world will recognize the insanity of launching nukes, so if any are launched, hopefully it'll only be by the incompetent, insane rulers. I would think that, if any are launched by the halfway-sane countries, they would be directed at the insane ones (N. Korea, Iran, Pakistan, to name a few with nukes and questionable sanity). The rest of the war would probably be pretty conventional.

That said, I really hope it doesn't come to that. The ecological, human, and economic costs would be incalculable.

I've a feeling we're living in a historic time.Something is bound to go wrong and it'll go down in the history books.Look at the cuban missile crisis.

Assuming that we're still alive after this all goes down, of course we are. It's inevitable.

Yeah, and even if one nuke is fired, we have something similar to if not the Domino Effect to take into account.

thats true. The koreans will probably attack at some point. The way korean government are going they are causing other nations to take precationary measures which they find is a threat so escallation begins and eventually the nucks are left fly.i think i'm safe where i am here in Ireland but the main countries at risk from the crisis are north america and areas on the european continent.

You're acting as if it's just the Korean government's fault. It's not. If this happens, there will be a number of governments to blame.

I don't see other nations blatantly contravening the conventions of the UN and then hiding behind their big important comrades.

Please elucidate as to what other governments have done to escalate this.

Well, you've got to keep in mind that Korea isn't the only area of the world in turmoil, if a third World War breaks out then those will be involved. There's the current War on Terror (Formerly known as the War in Iraq), which has the the Iranian government, the former Iraqi government, and arguably the US government to blame. There's also the fact that the UN was assembled even though groups like that were nearly the entire reason behind World Wars I and II.

Lol I know allll about the League of Nations and how it completely failed. I thought it might be better this time because most (if not all?) countries in the world are represented. What annoys me is that countries like China and America have effective vetoes when it comes to important matters. I'd say that would be why nothing more than sanctions has been done.

As for Iran, it is as bad as North Korea. I'd say the best course of action would be for UN peacekeepers to invade both countries and do what they are supposed to do. I.e. keep the peace. Even if it is a bit preemptive. I would certain rather it was brought under control before the nukes start flying.

Yeah, and people thought the League of Nations would work better than the Allied and Central Powers, but that didn't work out too well. But at some point it's just better to accept that all systems will have their flaws.

But that's what was supposed to happen with the US invasion. Iraq refused to be searched for weapons of mass destruction, so the US invaded them as a motion of the UN.

It just seems more and more like the UN is turning into a toothless dog =/ And everyone had such high hopes for it. And the global court. Like that head of state who was wanted for crimes against humanity and he laughed at their arrest warrant. Both the Global Court and the UN need to get their act together and show every country in the world that they are a force to be reckoned with and listened to. Otherwise they might as well pack it in and give up. But if the UN ever disbanded it would be the end of life as we know it :(
