I haven't gotten a chance to try it in multiplayer yet. But let me put it this way. When you switch your pokemon after one is KO'd the game shows your opponent the name of the Pokemon you're going to send out and then gives them an opportunity to switch. So if my Snivy is named Tepig...

Actually in competitive play you don't get the opportunity to change when the opponent sends out a pokemon. So it's pointless.
And I believe it states in the rules that you cannot name a pokemon another pokemon name Such as naming your Snivy "Tepig"
I've started to name all my Pokebro's. Makes them a lot more unique. My Snivy (now obviously Serperior) is Fang. so unoriginal but whatevs
