A plane has crashed near the Polderbaan on Schiphol. It's about a Boeing 747 of Turkish Airlines with 134 passangers on board. At least 9 people didn't survive the crash, including 3 crew members. Furthermore, there were 84 passangers injured, from which six were heavily injured. The bodies of the deceaced are now contained.
Ouch. Pilot error? I could almost see it as a hertless form of suicide - crash the plane into the ground to kill yourself. That's probably not what happened, but it just popped into my mind as a potential explanation.
O.O I just flew three different flights two days ago.......I hope everyone else comes out okay. Planes are just crashing everywhere these days....kinda makes flying a little scary.
Statistically speaking, it's still the safest form of travel, because of the intensive training commercial pilots go through (They even have psych evaluations to make sure they do well under pressure) and the rigorous testing that happens before a plane launches for the first time and after every crash (they test the whole line of planes (747s, etc) if one crashes). I still love to fly (probably because I don't get to that often).
It was weird because there were three men in the cockpit. Only two men are allowed in there. It was believed for a while that the plane might be hijacked, but luckily it was not.
