I'm looking to buy Persona 3, but I have no clue what the differences are in the different versions. Apparently, there's:

-Persona 3 (the original PS2 version)
-Persona 3 FES (an upgraded version of the original with an epilogue)
-Persona 3 Portable (the original with a female protagonist choice)

Is there anything else i need to know? And which one should I get? (I need some games for my PSP)

FES has a social link that lets you save a character who dies.
Portable has a social link exclusive to the FeMC that lets you save another character who also dies.
FES has Weapon Fusion where you can fuse Personas with certain weapons.
Portable also has Weapon Fusion, but it's simplified.
Portable has a cameo by Vincent from Catherine.
Portable lets you control your entire party like in Persona 4.
Portable does not have The Answer (Epilogue.)
    Original has none of these.

FES is the best version to buy if you want content, has the most stuff going for it.

I thought portable also had something else put in it, like some sort of different story that takes place? I can't remember fully, or maybe I'm just thinking of something else, but I thought it was that you could do something with some kind of mask and that makes the story go in a different direction

Portable has less animation and such, and it feels like a flash game 90% of the time. Get FES, it's by far the best version.

I've also heard a lot of debate about Portable having the better gameplay system since you can control your party members.

Overall, which one would you guys say is the more enjoyable version? (I could watch cutscenes on Youtube if P3P has better gameplay)

I have to agree with this. FES has another playthrough called The Answer. It's basically a playthrough about the events after the original game. I haven't played it, but I've heard it can be difficult.

P3P is basically the same but you can choose the gender(Just without The Answer). But I guess it's mainly for the female protagonist's point of view. It's fun, but it doesn't have the anime cut scenes like P3 and P3FES has. You have a few different social links and new ones that the male protagonist didn't have. The gameplay is a lot easier. It has the same style as Persona 4 of being able to control what your party members should use as an attack and whatnot. It's less frustrating, to be honest. XD

I say just choice between one of these.

You don't say (sorry, don't want to sound like a jerk >.>)

And I've heard from quite a few people the The Answer is...bad. Like, some called it a bad fanfic?

The tactical combat is better than having controll of your entire party. It is actually unique, and you get a ton of commands you can assign to everyone, so if you're tactical you will always have your party do what you want them to. It's not bad by any means, unlike the Persona 4 version of the combat. FES is overall more enjoyable for the experience, there's just something else to see what is happening, rather than having the game play radio hour. And it feels better to controll your characters around the areas, rather than a blue or pink circle.

It's not bad actually, it's just feels a bit long winded, since it doesn't have the social links. The story is actually pretty interesting. For Persona 3 standards.

Yes it has better gameplay but I've heard the enemies were not updated to match this change so people are saying it is easier. Though I never played P3P myself so I wouldn't know. So my opinion get FES. It is probably also cheaper in price, at least on PSN it is. FES is 10 dollars and P3P is like 20 I think.

It's not bad lol. It sort of gets repetitive and hard. But the plot on it is sort of like a small extension of the main game. It does get into fan-fix territory with certain things, but it's overall good.

I think FES is the overall better version. And it's on the PSN * v *

I'm quite sure that P3P is the only Persona 3 game with the Maniac difficulty. Which is really the biggest challenge in a game I've seen thus far.

Okey, so FES it is (luckily is half P3P's price too). Maybe I'll get P3P later too, to try the female story.

Any ideas when Persona 4 will come to PSN too?

As I mentioned, there's a new Social Link (FeMC exclusive) that lets you save a character who would have normally died, but only if you finish his social link. Some social links are also different for the FeMC (Tennis/Volleyball instead of Track/Swimming/Kendo, for example) and the stories are different for those, but nothing else other than that. Quite a few Social Links are changed for her because different kinds of people decide to talk to her. Kenji never introduces himself to her (though he does play a part in the Sports Club Social Link), so Junpei becomes the Magician Arcana. There's also a Social Link with Koromaru (yes, the dog). Oh, and you can date the middle schooler who joins your group.

Persona 3 Portable is the superior choice
The only thing that P3P doesn't have is the Answer, other then that the game has been severely upgraded.
    Female Protagonist
Can control ALL your party members
New Social Link(In this one you can actually social link all of your party members and not just the female ones)
New Secret Boss(Margaret and Vision Quest)

It all depends really, would you rather Social Link with this guy
    [IMG]
    Or
    This guy

In terms of being an epilogue, FES is like a bad fanfic.
