Back when BBS was first released, people made fun of Terra endlessly for trusting Maleficent who obvious looked evil.
Good to know Disney raised a generation of children who think people are stupid for not making decisions based on what a person looks like

You're assuming it was the Disney kids, and not the FF kids who made fun of Terra.

If anything it would be the Disney kids, people who haven't played KH, or the typical "Bash on every new game " gamers.

Disney has always had the simple and classic good vs. evil storylines for their media. By simple, I mean, there was very little question, if any, who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. Through time, the bad guy was almost always portrayed as looking evil in some way, or being much less attractive than the good guy (though this has obviously changed in our generation). Disney is simply sticking to the tried-and-true formula of who the bad guy is, but it's up to the characters themselves (well, writers of the characters) to interact how they see fit. I can't remember the type of irony that it is, but you as the audience will know things that the characters themselves don't. Most in-universe characters aren't genre-savvy so they aren't portrayed as it. The audience tends to be genre-savvy, so we judge the characters by it.
