What is the difference between a diary and a journal?

Diaries are more self-reflective in terms of its entries. The writer usually talks about themselves more than anything else and it's usually meant to be used as an outlet for people who need to express their thoughts in a safe, controlled manner.

Journals, on the other hand, can be personal logs about something specific. Scientists (or a researcher) sometimes use journals to log progress in their experiments/studies, as do writers for long-term projects, etc. They're often more factual in content and deviate slightly from personal opinion (although there is a degree of it found in journal entries).

Yeah, there actually is a difference.

 

I bet Ansem the Wise kept a journal. And I know for a fact Xemnas keeps a diary.

I fail to see how being a researcher who keeps journal logs on his/her experiment/study constitutes a girl being a tom boy, or a boy being normal.
