What would you call a state between war and peace?

    I've been writing short stories and dunno what to call this certin period of time. So can any one please help?

    armistice, ceasefire, truce i think thats all there is

    armistice is the permanent end of a war, the other two are temporary

    OR you could go figuratively and state that it's:
    "An interlude in which the scent of gunpowder still lingered in the air, reminding all that war still hovered in the background of all thoughts of peace." But that's just me. xD

    Sadly...I don't think that it's possible.
    There's always a war somewhere, whether it's abroad or in a country.
    So, In my opinion, the time between war and peace is impossible.

    If its a battle then the time between fighting and peace would be when agreements and compromises were made. The period on negotiations is known as parley or parlée.
