~A Haunting Fortress on the Horizon~

"Wait," Alec stopped in his tracks when he realized something. "I have no idea where to go..." he thought aloud. He crossed his arms, closed his eyes, and tilted his head forward, a habit of his when there was thinking to be done. His right foot started tapping the ground in a quick rhythm. The elder said I should check each city, looking for the other Veritas Magus...that their mission should be the same, as he thought, he shifted Unda on his back. But if their mission is the same as mine...then what if they left? How will I find them? He opened his eyes suddenly and threw his hands in the air as he groaned, "You didn't think this through, old man!" He yelled into the air, hoping the town elder would hear it wherever he was.

Alec started walking again, annoyed and losing hope slightly. He turned a corner, still thinking aloud, "Welk's the closest...I guess I'll start there?" He reached up and brushed his hand through his hair, sighing and paying no mind to where he was going. "It'd be easier to just walk to Fainth and deliver Unda to Thanatos personally...rather than finding the other Veritas Mag-oh!" He stopped suddenly as he realized he was about to walk into a horse. "Sorry about that," he muttered as he looked up at its rider. An Elfen girl? He realized. She was holding up a special-looking staff. Alec could feel something coming from the staff, a mystical energy.

 

Mya scratched her head. Conquer the world with the Magus Veridas?That's bad. And you're supposed to gather all of them and rally againt him. She sighed. It sounded dangerous, long, and difficult. She couldn't shake the thought of the world's fate depending on some ancient items out of her head. It sounded like something in a fantasy book, but then again, the old legend were true.

 

Kirie turned in surprise when she heard her name spoken by an unfamiliar voice. The one that had spoken to her was a boy, younger than her, she could tell. Faeries were older than they appeared to be. Placing the last apple within her basket, her guard went up instantly as he mentioned her pendent's name. 'How does he...?' She watched him carefully with her dark green eyes. "And what if I am?" Serin, was it? He seemed to be in a very big rush. That made Kirie a bit more nervous, but she kept it hidden as she kept a steady gaze on Serin. "Like wise to meet you, Serin," she said with a little sarcasm on her voice. She didn't mean to be so bold right out front, but from past experiences, she learned to be more cautious than before.

She rested her basket on her arm and then crossed her left arm across her body so that her left hand was resting on one of the big juicy apples she picked out. Kirie was casual about it, she had to be. "What about the Luna Veritas Magus?"

 

Julie sighed out softly, a smile remaining crossed on her lips when seeing the fire come from the ring. She looked down at Tempest and held out her hand that held the brooch. She stared down at it before what looked like very small lightning bolts coming from the item. She placed her free hand over it, clasping the brooch. "Tempest, it controls lightning. Although, since I barely got it, I'm not very good at controlling it just yet," she said, laughing nervously. "My name's Julie, by the way."

 

Raphael watched in wonder at the lightning. He'd never heard of this Veritas Magus. "My name is Raphael. And don't worry. The more you use the Veritas Magus, the better with it you become." Raphael smiled. "Here, I'll show you what you may be able to do at some point." Raphael held out his hand again. Two flames appeared from the amber stone. They both formed into a human like shape. Suddenly, they began to waltz. They danced for only a few moments and then he immediately balled his hand into a fist. The flames went out. "I'm trying to figure out how I could make them bigger. The only size I could get them to is only a few inches." Raphael laughed.

 

Elaina looked at Alec, and let out a small laugh. "It's alright. If horses were built so delicate, they'd be useless creatures. She'll be fine." Titania let out a snort. Elaina laughed, and patted her on the snout. "My name is Elaina, and this is my horse, Titania. I suppose you could say we travel together."

She stared at him for a second, deep in thought. "Did I hear you mumbling about Veritas Magus?"

 

Alec chuckled and took a step back for a short bow. "You can call me Alec," he told Elaina before standing straight. He reached up and attempted to brush Titania's face. "Nice to meet you, Titania," he said to the horse. The young Faerie's ears perked when Elaina mentioned the Veritas Magus. She must've heard me, he realized. Immediately becoming suspicious of her, he took another step back and turned his body slightly, one hand reaching back towards Unda, but not grabbing it.
"Ah, yeah. You know, those...mystical weapons," he said with a false smile, but his eyes stayed narrow, "You know what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But do you know anything about them yourself?" He eyed her carefully. He could still feel the energy from her staff, something he blamed on his magical affinity. She could be one of two people, he surmised quickly: she could be another protector of the Veritas Magus, but could he really find her that easily? The other possibility is the one that worried him. She could work for Thanatos.

 

Interesting. Could he be a protector? I wonder... Elaina gripped Lucus tighter. "Mm, yes, plenty. More than you, no doubt." She heard her own voice go hostile in response to his.

"Sorry, that was uncalled for. I know much about these weapons." Elaine said, in a much calmer tone. She looked down her nose at Alec, curious.

"Calm down. if I was going to hurt you, I would have by now."

Julie giggled and clapped her hands slightly when she saw the two figures dance. "Well, that'd be interesting to see with lightning bolts," she laughed. She cocked her head slightly, clasping her hands behind her back to imagine such an image. She chuckled before shaking her head. "I think they'd only end up fighting." Her eyes fluttered for a moment, remembering the things the town elder had told her. "Have you found any others with a Veritas Magus?"

 

"Ha!" Alec's own hostility simmered down quickly. "I'm sorry if I seemed agressive in my own right, but you're wrong," he couldn't help but grin as his body relaxed, but his hand didn't move an inch farther from Unda. "For one, I doubt you could hurt me," he was kidding, but only half-way. "And don't be so sure you know more than I do, Miss Elaina," he assured her. While he may not have enjoyed his parents' path of scholars, there was no denying that he had gained a lot of information over the years. However, he was bluffing about his knowledge on the Veritas Magus. He wasn't sure just how much he knew about them either.

 

"Actually, no. You're the only one I've ever seen with a Veritas Magus." Raphael chuckled and looked at the sky. "Well, it's about time for my show. Would you like to see my performance?"

 

He's cocky. Elaina thought to herself. "I wouldn't be so sure of yourself stranger. that could get you hurt one day." Elaina sighed, walked to her saddlebags, grabbed a brush, and began brushing Titania's hair. "Let's cut this nonsense." She said, not looking at Alec. "You're up to something, I'm up to something, and we both seem to know of the Veritas Magus." She brushed a knot out of her horse's mane. Poor Titania. She's been pushed hard these last few days... And Alec is an interesting character indeed. "So how's this going to play out? Is one of us going to go out on a limb and tell the other what they're up to? Or are we going to go our seperate ways, never to see each other again?"

 

Julie lowered her head as soon as Raphael answered her question. She was hoping he would have found others. Then again, if he did, they probably would have been around him. The girl raised her head and cocked it, raising her eyebrows in surprise. "You're a performer?" she asked, a hint of curiosity in her tone. "I wouldn't mind seeing it."

 

Alec couldn't help but widen his grin. "I can take care of myself," he responded confidently, even though this too was somewhat of a bluff. While Alec has been around, he wasn't exactly known to be a fighter. Not that he wasn't skilled, but that he rarely found himself in situations that needed brawling. "Either way," his grin narrowed slightly as he took one step closer to Elaina and her horse. He decided that this exact moment was a test of fate. Either Elaina would be one of the ones he needed to find or an obstacle to overcome. If he couldn't overcome it, this journey was not meant to be. He ignored the fact that she could simply be a traveling scholar or something of the sort.

"My name is Alec Fey and I'm entrusted with Unda, the Veritas Magus of water," he told her bluntly, taking the chance at fate. His hand moved to grip Unda's bandaged shaft as his grin disappeared and his eyes focused on Elaina's.

 

Dyre's eyes narrowed, and she walked further into the street as she watched the mysterious man on horseback ride off through the city of Fainth. She did not like this man. At all. He made her feel uneasy, and she felt that the man was up to something; something that wasn't going to end well. She stormed into her shop, and slammed the door shut. She stood for a moment, and the little voice in her head tried to talk her out of what she was about to do. But she didn't have time for the voice in her head. She went over to her desk, boots stomping on the wooden floor. She put on a pair of slim gloves, and strapped her two machetes to her back. She put the "closed" sign in the window, then walked out the door. She took another deep breath before she climbed nimbly up to the rooftop. I'll have a better chance of tracking him from up here, she thought.

 

"Yes, I am a magician or sorts. You could say I cheat." Raphael snickered and walked a little farther forward. He spread his large wings. All the people around him gazed at him and backed away. People who have seen him before smiled and began to clap. Immediately he lifted his hand. A blast of flame shot through the sky. He moved his fingers a little and the tip of the flame turned into a dragon's head. He moved about as the dragon of flame twisted and swerved through the sky, blasting flame from its mouth every few seconds. He then slammed his fist on the ground the dragon came crashing upon him. He rose from the flame unharmed. He took a bow and folded his wings. After the applause ended and everyone went back to their business, he walked back to Julie. "I guess you could say I use the Varitas Magus a little irresponsibly." He smiled.

 

Elaina Smiled, and let out a sigh of relief. If she had to fight, she would have, but she didn't really know how to. Alec was carrying another Veritas Magus! She hadn't known it would be so easy to find another weapon protector. Fortune shone upon her today, that's for sure. She held out the staff, while keeping a firm grip, aware that he could be tricking her. However, it was doubtful, and she didn't think he was."My name is Elaina Montenegro Zorander, and I have been Given Lucus, the Veritas Magus of nature."

"I have traveled from Murex to Etha to visit the Elder of this town on horse back, and I am tired." Elaina replied, then stuck her hand out and grinned. "However, I am pleased to make your acquaintance."

 

"Lucus? Nature?" Alec repeated as he let go of Unda. Guess she's on my side after all, he added to himself as he cocked his head. "Who knew finding each other would be so easy?" He asked with a laugh as he brushed his hand through blue hair. He honestly did not expect to find another Veritas Magus wielder so easily or early. He could only hope the others would be as easy to find as Elaina.

"Trust me, the elder is an annoying old man. You don't want to meet with him," Alec assured her as his face scowled, "Perhaps I can help you instead?" Something else jumped into his head. "I'd let you rest in my cabin," he offered, despite his plan to abandon it, "But I don't think we should stay long. Who knows how long we have until someone else comes searching for the Veritas Magus."
