    Yeah Manga is Japanese Comic Books, and anime is an animated version of manga. Thats why lot of anime are based on Manga.

    Nah^^

    Nah ,, Manga is not just books it can be magazines too and stuff^^
    Manga is bascially everything that is drawed in japanese and in the manga way
    (Sharp edges and a big spiky hair very often^^)
    Anime is japanese (or other countries,well most often japanese very few from other countries) manga made into movie it does not have to be a manga first you can just make a anime^^
    But just basic its
    manga= drawings , books^^
    Anime=Movies ,series^^

    Maybe this is obvious, but in that case why do they put the manga symbol on the boxes and at the beginning of DVD's such as Naruto? Is it because they are based on manga?

    Yup pretty much got it there^^
    its just that (naruto as example) when a manga like naruto is beeing maked an anime out of they set the manga mark on because the anime is going to bre based on the manga and that it was manga before anime^^

    No, it's because the distribution company is called Manga. It has nothing to do with if it was a Manga to begin with.

    In general most anime is based on manga, but there are going to be exceptions. But in general the word anime and manga are japanese words for what we call comics and cartoons.

    Manga is japanese for comic book and Anime is japanese for animated series (cartoon).

    Thanks for helping. I'm really grateful, as I was totally confused and thought Manga was the style of animation to start with.

    I just wanted to point out that some anime are created FIRST, with a manga following after; Wolf's Rain and Yu Yu Hakusho are the only ones I can think of right now.
