Can we ever really understand the opposite sex?

I've found that attraction to the opposite sex is as a result of curiousity and fascination as opposed to simply wanting to fully understand them. I believe in some form of intimate sync between a man and woman, but to fully understand the former or latter requires more than what we're current able to do as humans. If anything I've only found slight constants, as sublte as they are, to remain with women and men in general; men are stupid in some form or another in anything they do, and women crazy. Not in extreme of course, but in varying degrees no matter how subtle.

Oh no I meant no form of insult. I even had to read it slowly to see if it sounded right.

An 11 year old shouldn't have any issue with understanding the words I used. If so use a dictionary. Gah I'm done with the offtopic-ness.

To make my point simple: we can understand enough.

Sure, a guy may never know what menstruation feels like, or a girl knowing what an erection feels like (and anyone who dares to make some immature comment on those has no right to respond to my post), but we don't have to because it's not something we were 'made' to experience.

We can understand as much about the opposite sex as much as we allow ourselves to listen to what they have to say. White_Rook's point is somewhat similar to mine in the sense that our differences are what draw our interest toward them. We naturally have an affinity toward the other because their varying perspectives intrigue us. Of course, joined interests are the basis for many relationships, but the perception of said interests aren't always the same. At the end of the day, both can like the same things, but their reasons why can be vastly different.

Anyway, we can understand as much as we need to if we take time to try. People who like to use the gender card as their justification for 'not getting it' are just too lazy to make a genuine effort.

I don't get it. You guys keep saying that there ARE things we'd never understand about the opposite sex, but you never once mention what they are. Explain?

If this is just based on thoughts and feelings, then this doesn't apply just for the opposite sex, this applies to ANYONE.

    EDIT: Goddamnit Jap!Roxas -___-

I like your points! And I agree gender card playing sucks!

Hmmm thanks everyone in some ways I actually feel a lot happier about this now, I guess if we knew everything about each other then there would be no real basis for interest! I have decided that mystery is what makes life fun you know? I feel in quite a reflective mood today and have decided there is no point being concerned about something I cannot change, I can always wonder but I think I'm happy to not know everything! So thanks guys some of your points have been ace, and all of them interesting! :D

I think I need to understand myself first before I can understand others.

You probably didn't notice becasue you thought your friend was just being friendly and not a relationship. I don't think that its about the gender, its about the person.

I find it pretty easy to understand males or females, gays or straight peoples. It's not that hard if you don't tell yourself mentally that someone is different just because they have a ****** or a *****. When people say things like 'women are this' or 'men are that' I laugh because for every woman or man they say is a stereotypical something or other, I can always find another of the opposite gender that is the same. People need to stop using stereotypes and acting like the opposite sexes are so opposite. We aren't that different. There are some things, but really, with all the melding of cultures we have done, it's changed a lot in even the last 20 years. It is annoying when someone tells me I act a certain way without knowing me and then blinks when they find out it's a silly bias tag attached that doesn't hold up. Men and women gossip. Men and women can be gold diggers. Men and women can sleep around. Men and women can lie to your face. Men and women can be assertive, hostile or passive aggressive etc etc.

This also goes to say that people treat gays and straight people different too and try to stereotype that all gays are one way and straights are another. Then again, this can also apply to so many things that people try to assign the sexes in as saying someone is a tomboy, a metro-sexual, a girly man and more. I find just knowing the different aspects of myself helps me to comprehend people easier and I'm a good listener and talker, melding in well. I also do not like liars, back stabbers and gossip queens, or cheaters, regardless of what gender or sexual preference, and yet they are all around. People are people. No one EVER understands someone else absolutely. We all change and our emotions alter too.
