See, I wish more people would look at it this way. Yes, most people want a sequel to DMC4, which could still very well happen, but instead they're getting a completely different Devil May Cry experience. I wish people would at least give the game a chance before marking it as the worst thing to happen since *insert horrible thing here*.

Thank you for sharing, HoL. Only time will tell if the game is good or not.

Without trying to start an argument here, I'm going to put out my opinion on the matter.
They've taken a game that was supposed to be slightly comedic and not take itself entirely seriously, and made it into a dark, gritty, realistic thing, where the main character is essentially a street punk.
Now, it's not so much the fact that they're making a game like that, because as you say; on it's own, maybe the game would have been decent. Not great, but decent. But the fact is that they've taken 4 great games and shoved them in the trash in favour of what is clearly an entirely different game that will appeal to entirely different people without even finishing the storyline they were following properly is what gets me.

A reboot means that the old continuity is being discontinued. They are not producing sequels to the old games.

Okay, so I was incorrect on that point. My bad. But I still think DmC could turn out to be good if people would just quit complaining about the new characters or whatever and actually give the game a chance for what it is: A game. I, for one, can easily get over the fact that Dante is now a street punk who drops F-Bombs at every chance he gets. It's gameplay that matters most in a video game.

Couldn't have said it better myself. No really, that's pretty much my opinion right there.
Well it could be worse. Dante could be going through the whole game talking about babies.

I disagree entirely. Good gameplay used to be what mattered, but now it's less than a quarter of what's needed. The fact is that video games these days are a media experience, on the same level or even higher than movies and literature. Gameplay has to be carefully balanced with storyline and characters in order to be good; if you fail in one section, your entire game will be hated by half your audience already.
I, for one, can stand mediocre gameplay if the story and characters are particularly driving. A good example is Alan Wake; the gameplay is lacking in several parts, but Alan Wake himself makes for an interesting character as you go on because he's well written for, and that's why the games are actually kinda popular.

I haven't seen much of the reboot, but what is the relationship between Vergil and Dante in this one? Are they still brothers or something?

They are. They're twin brothers, but Vergil seems to actually like Dante and vice-versa, with them disagreeing on how to do things but willing to look past it because of their relation.

No, he's his wacky robot sidekick who was built by a hooker with a heart of gold.

EDIT: Nevermind, DT posted before me. :C

I guess we have opposite tastes in terms of video games. I for one prefer gameplay over all else. Everything else is just added flare that makes the game better. I do understand that story and setting is a much higher priority in video games than it was 15-20 years ago, but for me, gameplay is what makes the game.

Yeah, they're still brothers. EDIT: Ninja'd.

I see. I think the creators were inspired by the Spider-Man series because I read there's a character in the reboot who bashes on Dante for his deeds like Jonah Jameson did to Spider-Man.

Good enough, though if I have to compair DmC to a remake/reboot I'd compair it to the 1998 American Godzilla movie.

Y'know, I liked that movie actually. I mean, it's pretty obvious that Zilla was underpowered (compared to the original Godzilla), most likely non-sentient, and just on a destructive rampage, but I don't think it was done that poorly.
    Speaking of, reserving;

    Godzilla (Godzilla: The Animated Series)

It has the Godzilla name I will be judge it as a Godzilla movie.

But the Animated Series was pretty cool. Zilla Jr. for the win.

I was tempted to bring in Renta-zilla's from the Megatokyo webcomic... now I'm considering it even more seriously. lol

And then Rent-a-Zilla became a zombie.
