Why does the shinigami have the liberty to decide a manner of death? That could be misleading and lead a person in the wrong direction. Also, how is a detective even supposed to know if their name was used correctly or incorrectly, if not only on a hunch?

And if such a method was used, the shinigami should never be Kira, as he could use the names of the detectives from pasts rounds of checking to announce a kill by name.

 

The Shinigami (well, me, at least) doesn't decide the manner of death. The Shinigami takes what the Kira gives him and writes a skit with it. For example, the past kill detail was "Cannibal Holocaust". For these ones, it was "something with pirates" and a blank PM for the heart attacks. If Kira wishes to do a skit, he may write a skit. It saves me the trouble, and makes them fun Kira to have around. The only skits the Shinigami have complete control over are the accusations and the endgame. (Although if you wish to give a method of interrogation when accusing, I'd be more than happy to oblige.)

The detective name rule is mostly just to keep the game running smoothly. This way, instead of putting the entire game on hold while I confirm whether it's your real name, you come to me if you think it isn't. People don't lose anything from requesting the name, and they're more than welcome to ask. Furthermore, the Shinigami doesn't require the real name in order to verify the name. I post the kill, you ask me to verify the name. I PM you the name. If it's wrong, then you say so. You don't have to reveal your real name or anything.

Even so, while I agree with your statement about Shinigami being Kira in theory, in practice, we often need more players. The Shinigami rarely become Kira. If I were to rule out that possibility though, then past-Shinigami would automatically be exonerated and useless as a player.

Accusations:

As Tsumetai Taichou died two hours prior to his accusation, the only way he could sufficiently communicate was by possessing a fly from the afterlife and buzzing in Morse code around the Detectives' heads. Unfortunately for Tsumetai, people generally don't listen for Morse code from flies. As such, Chevalier swatted it dead mid-message, and the accusation did not go through.

Tail_Wind was also killed three hours before he accused Marcell, so his accusation didn't go through either. He tried to revive as a zombie, but when he did, all thoughts of accusing were substituted for a desire for brains. As such, Fearless chucked his zombified corpse off a cliff.


Yes, kills were sent through before you two made your accusations. Bad luck.
