Kingdom Hearts Destiny Islands...

How the heck did it recover from earthquakes and stuff that tore it apart during that storm?

 

I'm not sure, but I don't think any physical harm was done to the islands (except them being put into darkness). I might have to go back and check...

 

As it was mentioned in the game, when the heartless were defeated, the worlds that were taken by the heartless (Destiny Islands included) would be restored to their proper state.

Well it came back right after Sora and King Mickey locked Kingdom Hearts. That probably had a great deal to do with the return of Destiny Island.

 

Any worlds that were taken in KH were restored when Ansem was defeated. They were separated and restored, with their hearts of the worlds locked and the princesses of Heart restored as well. So, though the world had been compromised, Sora and team's mission in the end restored all of the worlds that had been taken and they were made whole again. Since no Heartless were on the world of DI prior to the door of DI being opened, there were none after on that world.

However, as someone pointed out, the Heartless remained a problem in KH2. Some of this was due to the Organization planting remainders of them at worlds while others probably were still traveling about interspace, as KH identifies 'space travel'.

 

All of the worlds were restored (like hollow bastion) when Xehanort was defeated

 

In KH1, after you defeat Xenahort's Heartless, you see that Sora and Kairi are separated, at that same scene, a lot of yellow orbs that represent ligh are beggining to re-form Destiny Islands, why? Because since the darkness that was disturbing all the worlds is gone, it begone to re-form.

 

After Sora defeated Ansem, the worlds were restored in the end.

Remember in the KH ending when it was forming around Kairi?

Yup, that was it being restored.
