So I'm thinking about attempting to do a male anthropomorphized Dalek cosplay for Ohayocon 2013, but I need some advice. So far, my ideas go like this:

    1. It'll follow a "gentleman" sort of style with a cane, some sort of hat, dress shirt, jacket, and properly pressed and pleated pants.
    2. The cane will obviously have to be a black painted plunger with an extended handle. This is my first issue. If it is going to be a plunger, I'll have to be able to lean on it without getting stuck to the ground.
    3. The pants will have Styrofoam balls cut in half, painted, and arranged like on Dalekanium on the pants and jacket. The half-spheres would be attached by velcro for easy pants washing. I will do the same thing with the jacket.
    4. I will wear a bowler hat modified with a Dalek eyestalk. It will be dyed to match the rest of the outfit.
    5. I do not know what the color should be. I'm thinking that bronze might be best?

    That actually sounds pretty cool!

I would suggest though, the Bowler Hat dye thing might not work out, it will bleed out (trust me).
If you want to do a traditional Dalek design, you can always opt for a brown Bowler hat, and if you want one of the newer models (which are Red, Yellow, Blue etc.)

Then just find a Bowler Hat in that color, which isn't hard at all.

Well, for the plunger/cane, you could the cane through the plunger until the end of the cane is even with the edge of the plunger?
Then you could lean on the cane without getting stuck to the floor, but it would still look like you're leaning on a plunger.

I stopped here, I dislike this idea personally, because I think "gentleman" style is really lame.

Duly noted. So the colour would be bronze, then?
Oh, that's a good idea. I'll remember to try that. If that doesn't work out, I might have another idea that could work too.

You could always poke loads of holes in the plunger so it isn't vacuum tight (not 100% sure how well it would work though).

Well, you could always be the new Daleks- you could be the White one as I'm sure that wouldn't be too difficult but I could be wrong, the bronze one might be best. I like this idea though xD What are you doing about the whisk- I mean deadly Dalek laser gun?

    Ooh, that would definitely work!

And yeah, I think I'm going to go with bronze for my colour. It just fits Daleks better. As for the whisk, I think I'll go with a silver painted/dyed glove and then use my fingers to make the shape when I'm posing. If not that, I'll burn that bridge when I get there.

You should track down a cosplay forum and post there. I'd mention a certain website, but I don't know if that would count as advertising. Anyway, it's pretty easy to find. There's the word "cosplay" in the url. I think there's a ".com" as well. Actually, there's not really much else to it, really. But yeah, I've gotten a lot of help from there.

Yeah? What about the whisk? xD
I suppose you could have it hanging out of your top pocket, maybe? But the plunger and whisk are basically Dalek arms.

And when you do this your voice must always be robotic and you must move fast and fluidly, turns should be fast and mechanical.
Also, be deathly afraid of Jammie Dodgers. They cause TARDISes to self-destruct.

Oh, I just got a brilliant idea for the whisk.

Get like a water pistol or something of the like.
    Attach whisk to the front.
    Deadly dalek whisk gun.
