i dont personally really like rap so much, or listen to it often.
    but i consider rap music.

music, as i define it, is a rythm or pattern of beats and/or words to express feelings and/or emotions.
maybe even things that are happening in our world.

rap, as i see it, is a music genre that can describe emotions, feelings, and happenings.

By your logic, I can say all country music is about the singer's pathetic life which I think he needs to get over so country isn't music either.

Rap is music. It's a genre. One of my favorites. Yes, right now it isn't as tasteful as it used to be in the past, but it is still music.

    Some very well-known rap songs:
    • The Streets - I Love My Phone
    • Eminem - Mockingbird
    • Manau - Le Tribu De Dana
    • Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love?
    • 2pac - Changes
These last songs are even known for their anti-violence message throughout the song.

There is like, one rap song I like. I think rap is music, even though it's really just talking fast. I don't like it though.

Woah my post in this thread was lame.

Anyway, this question is extremely stupid.

Why should a rapper be classified so differently from a solely vocal artist such as Josh Groban or Celine Dion, or just about any band with a singer? Sure, not all rappers will have composers, instrumentalists, or orchestras backing them up, but the general idea is the same: using your voice to convey some kind of message that is enjoyable both by hearing the sounds and listening to the words.

Granted, not all rap is what I'd call enjoyable (most stuff on the radio these days), but in its early days, rap held true lyrical depth with an enjoyable beat to boost the vocals. Just leave it to the new generation's lazy effort to dumb rap and hip-hop down to the point of ridicule by musical elitists and the mainstream, as how every other musical genre has been dumbed down.

No genre should be questioned of being music just because you've only heard the crappiest songs in that genre. Not even country.

Some rap counts as music. Some counts as complete nonsense and trash. I prefer positive rap instead of rap about sex, skimpy girl stuff, drugs, and being a goldigger and pimp. That makes the list of positive rap a bit short.
