I always just thought emo was a short term of the word Emotional, but after reading this it'd seem I'm wrong. Anyways I'm sure these people have reasons for being that way, but the cutting self is well, yeah way off the line. Self mutilation is rather immature.

Well it is a dead genre. But there was a rise in bands using more emotional lyrics in the early 21st Century, bands like Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday. So the term Emo came since it is short for emotional. But the past 2 years has seen it been blown way out of proportion, with bands just having one sad song being classed as emo and it is now being used as an insult so it is damaging bands that don't deserve it. And the media in the UK isn't helping with them bashing on the style.

I personally think it's pathetic with people bullying others because of the bands they happen to like.

Bands never say they are emo, they are just classed as emo by critics and people around them, just like how people are called emo then they are nothing like one. Like I said it's been blown out of proportion and the word should just die like Nu-Metal did.

Yeah DARKANDROID, YOUR COMPLETELY RIGHT and people in my school think black metal bands are emo 0.o

Blech, I don't care was emo used to mean. Nowadays it means kids who do the stuff in NRA's first post. So stop debating about it, already. xP

And just to distinguish between the two; emo is like goth, but a lot less dark and much more Harry Potter.
