My mom went to a garage recently to get her car worked on, I don't give out my e-mail address to anyone because I don't want to get more junk mail. I also never wrote down my real name, which is common, but hard to spell because of the way it's put differently than most. I have gotten two e-mails from the garage with no reason why they have it. I also spoke to my mom and she says she never gave it out nor would ever because she knows how I feel about this. She also is not so good with computers and probably can't give out my address without asking me what it is anyway.

Does anyone know how they're getting my e-mail? I am getting irritated by it, especially since this time the service was terrible because their kid took a joyride in our car.

Sounds like it's just spam to me, in which case ignore it.

Okay first of all this should never, ever happen, I mean holy hell. That's outrageous. Don't go back.

That aside -- you're certain it was from this particular garage? They may have researched your mother (ex. on the internet) and gotten a hold of your e-mail too maybe? Or (doubtful because this business sounds highly unprofessional) they may have had contacts with that info.

Just as a relevant example, I have never had a Facebook (so they shouldn't have my e-mail address) but my mother did, and somewhere along the line Facebook started repeatedly e-mailing me asking if I knew people and to sign up -- people I really do know, and in some cases my mother knows. It's creepy, but I think information like that is decently easy to find through researching associates or having the right contacts.

I suspect that the e-mails are pretty harmless themselves as long as you don't reply with any information they're asking for, if any. I would mark them as junk and/or block the address. If there's a way to unsubscribe per se, try that too.

They e-mailed us asking how our service was, twice. And they used her name.

I think it was because I applied for a scooter once and they made me give my e-mail. Then they realized I was the same person with my mom to get her car fixed.

    This is TERRIBLE !
They should not be using any of your information without your consent, its appalling!

as for taking your Mums car for a joyride......
It frustrates me so much, there a very few garages these days that you can trust, i've seen some that are like 'hey you need to brake pads' when quite clearing they dont need new brake pads, so they fit them and charge you for them.....without actually fitting anything.

Unfortunately this is very common in garages and its unacceptable to say the least.

I trust no garage's and am lucky enough to be able to do all the work i need to do myself.[DOUBLEPOST=1378071697][/DOUBLEPOST]My Spelling/grammar could do with revising but i cant edit my post

Best thing to do it just ignore the emails, hopefully the garage will get the idea or assume the email address is no longer used.
