Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Kairi felt a soft gaze on her and looked up from the floor, her eyes falling on Sora instantly. She offered him a weak smile at the one he gave her, the girl walking over to him and holding out his water bottle for him, but she didn't sit down immediately. Instead, she turned her head to look at the boy sitting in the chair. "Um, Roxas?" she called.

Roxas tore his eyes away from the screen, he and Sora having been watching T.V. for a few minutes now. His gaze fell on Kairi, noticing immediately that a certain blonde was missing. "Yeah?" he asked.

 

Sora gently took the bottle of water out of Kairi's grasp, the teen staying silent as Kairi spoke to Roxas. He wasn't sure what was happening, but Namine was nowhere to be seen. He ignored it to the best of his ability and opened his water, lifting it to his lips and taking a few sips.

 

Kairi tucked some of her hair behind her ear and looked toward the doorway she had just come through. "I think somebody needs you in the kitchen," she said softly.

Roxas looked the way Kairi had and then back at her, studying her expression. Clearly, that somebody was Namine, and by the look on Kairi's face, it wasn't good. "Okay," he simply said, pushing himself up from his seat and starting toward the kitchen.

 

Sora lowered the water and looked at Kairi, his eyes showing curiosity. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he wasn't going to question it. After all, whatever was going on between Roxas and Namine was none of his business.

Namine looked at the water bottle in front of her, her sky blue eyes staying on the item simply because it was there. As much as she tried to convince herself that she was over analyzing everything, she couldn't do it completely. Perhaps she was being too hard on herself, like Kairi had said.

 

Kairi watched Roxas until he left the room, and then she looked down at the boy she was standing next to. She shrugged at the look in his eyes. She didn't really know either.

Roxas walked down the hallway and then stepped into the kitchen, but he stopped a few feet in. "Namine?" he called softly, noticing her position. She didn't look too happy; he could see that instantly.

 

Namine brought her head off her hand, turning her head to see the person who had just entered the room. "Roxas?" she said without thought, surprised. She was expecting Kairi to return, not Roxas. After all, Kairi had gone out to give Sora his water...right? Or had she been set up once again? Namine figured that it was the latter.

 

"Kairi said you needed me," Roxas said, motioning behind him as he took a few slow steps forward. Judging my Namine's surprise, that hadn't really been the case. He arched an eyebrow as he stopped a few feet away from her, confused.

 

Namine shook her head in disbelief, her gaze falling to the ground. "She set us up again," she said softly, the truth coming out in her voice. Kairi had brought her and Roxas together, just like she had at the smoothie shop a while ago.

 

Roxas arched an eyebrow, leaning his head to the side in wonder. "She looked worried, and I can see why," he said. She didn't look happy, but he wasn't sure why; yeah, he knew his apology earlier hadn't fixed everything, but when they spied on Sora and Kairi she seemed fine. "What's wrong?"

 

Namine brought up a hand, tucking back a strand of hair out of habit. "Nothing," she said, shaking her head as she looked down and over at the counter. She doubted that Roxas would believe that, though; he had read her just as easily as Kairi did, which proved that Namine was like an open book.

 

Roxas furrowed his eyebrows at the answer and walked forward a few steps. Instead of sitting down, though, he stood next to Namine and leaned his hand against the edge of the counter, using that as support. "You know that answer doesn't work with me," he told her softly. "Tell me what's wrong..."

 

Namine shyly kept her gaze downward, shifting it to her lap when she set her hands there. What was she supposed to say? Roxas had left something out of his apology, and she wasn't sure if he had simply forgotten about it or if he purposely left it out. How was she supposed to come out and say that to him?

 

Roxas lowered his gaze to Namine's hands when she did, and then he looked back up at what he could see of her face. "...Please?" he asked softly. He wanted to try to make things right; that had been the whole point of them getting together today. Well, except for Kairi; she had been unexpected. Regardless, something hadn't gone right here. He guessed he should have noticed that when she was quiet earlier in the living room.

 

Namine glanced up at Roxas, hearing his plea. She would tell him, but first she had to figure out a way to word it so that it made sense. "Earlier," she started softly, looking down at her hands again. "You said sorry for a lot of things, but..." But you didn't say sorry for one of the things that offended me most, she thought, swallowing so she wouldn't say it that way verbally.

 

Roxas's eyes softened as he lifted his brows. "Did I say something wrong?" he asked when Namine trailed off. He didn't move, his hand still against the edge of the counter as he used it for support. She was clearly upset about something, and it was related to his apology. Maybe he didn't say the right thing, or maybe he forgot something. But Roxas didn't know how he could...

 

Namine shook her head at the question, keeping her head down. "...It's what you didn't say," she said softly. He hadn't apologized for not believing her when she said that she didn't have feelings for Sora, and Namine wasn't sure how he could forget to say sorry for something that had led to him storming out of Sora's home.

 

Roxas didn't say anything at that. What he hadn't apologized for? His eyes fell to the floor as he tried to think back to all that had happened a few days ago. He apologized for lashing out at both of them when it was unnecessary, and he said sorry for how he overreacted; he apologized for treating Namine so badly, and he apologized for crossing the line with Kairi. What else was he forgetting?

 

Namine wasn't sure what Roxas' silence meant; perhaps he didn't know what she was referring to. Instead of waiting to find out if that was the case, she decided she would come out and say it. "You didn't believe me when I said I didn't have feelings for Sora," she said softly, lowering her head a little more when she said what was haunting her.

 

Roxas looked up at Namine at the words, but then he looked away. "Oh..." he said softly. How could he have forgotten to apologize for that? Probably because it was still haunting him, even afer these last few days.

 

After Roxas only said that one simple thing, silence hung in the air for a moment. Namine was afraid to break that silence, but she had something else she needed to inquire about. "...You still don't believe me, do you?" she asked softly, her voice close to a whisper.
