Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas lifted a hand to rub the back of his blond spikes. "Uh... You wanna go watch some t.v. or something?" he asked, motioning to the kitchen doorway. He couldn't think of anything he wanted to say, or do.

 

"Yeah, sure," Namine said, lowering her hand back to her side. She glanced at the bottle of water on the counter and then reached out and grabbed it, figuring that maybe she would drink a little more of it once they were in the living room.

 

Roxas lowered his hand, but held it out slightly in a gesture that simply said, After you. He could see that coming in here hadn't done much good, even if Kairi told him Namine needed him. Clearly it didn't change a thing.

 

Namine saw Roxas' gesture and she wordlessly walked past him, taking a few steps before she exited the kitchen. Opening up to Roxas really hadn't done much good; her feelings were out in the open, but there was nothing either of them could do do make things better. Talking it out had only brought their problems to the surface, which wasn't a good thing since now was a time when they were all supposed to be happy.

 

Roxas followed Namine in silence, wishing there was more he could do. But he had a feeling he would only make things worse. He was a different person one day than he was the next. It confused him, but he knew he would have to get it straightened out. And soon.

 

Sora glanced in the direction of the hall, seeing the two blonds returning to the living room. Neither of them looked too thrilled, so Sora looked back at the television to leave them alone. They had been gone for a while, and as curious as Sora was to know what happened, he knew it was none of his business.

Namine came into the living room and walked around the couch, sitting in the same spot that she had been in before. She glanced at Kairi, though she didn't look at her for more than a second. Her friend had set her up again, and like the last time that happened, things didn't work out well in the end.

 

Kairi glanced from the television screen to Roxas and Namine, but when she saw their expressions, she lowered her sight to the floor. She moved a little closer to Sora at the thought that invaded her mind: things weren't better. Maybe she should've listened when Namine told her she didn't want to talk to Roxas.

Regardless of the situation that was now on his hands, Roxas followed Namine to the couch and sat down beside her, unlike before. Things were uncomfortable before, and they were slightly the same now. It didn't matter to him, though, because he wanted to be next to her. That was okay, right?

 

Sora glanced down at Kairi when he noticed her move closer, though he looked away when he noticed her facial expression. He wasn't sure what her expression meant, but he assumed that it had something to do with Roxas and Namine. However, it was none of his business, so he stayed out of it.

Namine saw Roxas sit down next to her, and she was glad. It was better to pretend that things were alright, especially since they were guests in Sora's home. She saw Roxas's hand on the couch next to her and she set her hand on his, interlacing their fingers as she looked up at the television screen.

 

Kairi decided that she wasn't going to set them up anymore. Last time it didn't work out any better. The redhead tucked some of her hair behind her ear and looked back up, her attention going to the screen.

Roxas glanced down at his and Namine's hands, but his sight then went back to the show on the television. He lightly squeezed Namine's hand, though he wasn't sure why. Maybe it was just to help him realize that the fact she was holding his hand was a good sign, unlike other things.

 

Namine felt her resistance melt away, the girl just wanting to be near to Roxas. Keeping her hand in his, she scooted over closer to him, leaning her head lightly on his shoulder as she looked at the screen. Despite the fact that he had hidden something large from her and not believed her when she was telling the truth, she wanted to move forward. After all, holding a grudge would only make things more painful in the long run.

 

Roxas felt Namine's head rest on his shoulder, taking in a breath. He was a little confused; just a few moments ago she had barely wanted to speak to him. Now she was holding his hand and being close to him. Despite the fact that he didn't completely understand, he was glad. It showed that after all he'd done, Namine still loved him to a degree. Roxas wasn't sure if that degree was very great, but it was still there.

 

Namine kept her gaze on the television, though she wasn't paying attention to the program. She was still thinking about what had happened with her and Roxas. He had hurt her feelings, yes, but she found it hard to be angry at him after all they had been through together. She would put her feelings of hurt behind her and move forward, because that was the only choice that she had if she wanted to be happy in the future.

 

A few days later...

Kairi sat in her room, looking through old pictures simply for the memories. There were a lot of her and Sora when they were younger, before they had met Roxas and Namine. She smiled at one of the photos, where she surprised Sora with the camera. His blue eyes were wide and his mouth was half-open when she took the shot, but it made her smile anyway. Kairi remembered how he whined after taking the picture because he wasn't ready, but he hadn't been mad; he was always really sweet. Kairi stared at the next picture, of Sora holding two fingers above her head as she smiled at the camera. Sora had always been really kind, even when something was wrong. She couldn't help but wonder about the same thing these days.

 

Sora was sitting in his living room, finishing tying his shoes as he prepared to go out. It had been nearly a week since the day when Kairi presented her decision to him, and during the past few days, he had plenty of time to fully recover from his injuries. Thankfully, his ankle was healed for the most part, and he didn't need the crutches that Roxas had allowed him to borrow. Because of that, he was anxious to get them out of his home; he was sick of them reminding him of his wounds. So he would drop off the crutches at Roxas' house and be done with them.

 

Kairi couldn't figure out what exactly triggered her thoughts like this, but she couldn't ignore them now. She asked Sora about his mission a couple times, but he wouldn't really talk about it for some reason. However, he was super kind to her and treated her very well. Kairi thought about his kindness over the last couple days, and she couldn't think of anything but there being a specific reason behind his behavior, something she actually feared.

 

Sora stood upright, stretching once he was on his feet. There wasn't any rush to get to Roxas's; his friend wasn't expecting him. In fact, Sora wasn't even sure if he would be home, since he could have been with Namine. Regardless, Sora would head over and just leave the crutches on the porch if he had to.

 

What if he's doing this to make up for something he did? What if...he found somebody else too, while he was gone? The thought was unpleasant, but it was a possibility that Kairi acknowledged. She hadn't expected to find somebody either, and it happened. The same thing could have happened to Sora. She set the picture she was staring at down on her bed, brushing her bangs away from her face. She didn't like that thought, at all. But, why else was he so understanding of Nathaniel?

 

Sora walked over to the front door, grabbing his coat off the hanger and putting it on at a relaxed pace. Maybe after he took care of the crutches, he would go see Kairi. He had seen her constantly throughout the week, even spending the night with her two or three times when she called him in the middle of the night because she had awful nightmares. He was interested in seeing how she was doing, and he wasn't going to just make a phone call to do that; he wanted to see her face-to-face when she answered.

 

Kairi reached for her phone sitting on her mattress and immediately dialed Roxas's number, needing to talk to someone about this. She heard it ring a couple times and hoped he would answer, and wasn't busy with something.

Roxas blinked when he heard his phone ring from beside him, the boy pausing his game before grabbing it. "Hello?" he said.

"Roxas, it's Kairi. Are you busy with anything?" Kairi asked softly, not wanting to disturb him. If he was with Namine, she would just call back later.

"No, not really," Roxas answered truthfully. He could tell by Kairi's tone something wasn't right, but he didn't jump to conclusions. "What's up?"

 

Sora grabbed the crutches that were standing upright by the door before he opened the front door and then shut it behind him, starting to walk down his pathway. Roxas didn't live too far away, so it would only take him a few minutes to get there. He looked forward as he walked, ignoring how cold it was. The weather hardly affected him anymore; he was used to various climates due to his recent days of fighting the Heartless. The worlds he visited often had varying climates, Christmas Town and Agrabah being two extreme opposites.
