Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas's hands formed fists, the boy becoming aggravated. "What, because you're ashamed?" he said, staring at Sora. "You're only going to stay that way unless you talk about it, Sora. I know it takes a lot to overcome it, but it helps when you talk to someone about it." Obviously, he was referring to himself. Roxas knew how it was, so he figured Sora could at least talk to him about it.

 

"No, Roxas," Sora said, lifting his hands in a way of emphasizing his point. "You're wrong. It doesn't work that way, not with this." It was better if he kept his shame bottled up inside of him rather than unveiling it for Roxas to see. If he said it aloud, then it would only intensify the feelings that he was experiencing. And he couldn't handle that. He just couldn't.

 

"How do you know that?" Roxas asked, hands still balled into fists. He didn't like that his friend was telling him he was wrong when they both probably went through an equal amount of pain over the last couple months. He knew what it was like to be ashamed of something; he had been ashamed of himself a lot lately. Didn't Sora know that?

 

Sora lowered his hands, curling them into light fists again. "Some things you just know," he said simply. He knew that probably wouldn't' be answer enough for Roxas, but that was the best response he could give. Saying anything else would hint at what the problem was, and he refused to give in and do that.

 

Roxas furrowed his eyebrows in frustration, staring at the person who stood only a few feet from him. He then took a few quick steps forward, grabbing Sora by the front of his shirt and pushing him against the wall.

Kairi gasped softly when she heard something thud against what she believed was a wall. What was happening over there?

 

Sora grunted in surprise, feeling Roxas shove him up against the wall. "What are you doing?" he asked in a low tone of voice, some of his surprise showing in his voice. "You're shoving me up against the wall because I won't tell you about something that doesn't even affect you? What's your deal?"

 

"You think you know everything, don't you?" Roxas said, staring at Sora through slightly narrowed eyes. "Stop acting so stubborn and open up once in a while! If you don't, you're going to regret it." Roxas knew what it was like. When you had darkness in your heart, you learned a lot of things.

Even though Kairi hadn't had the need to speak throughout the duration of being on the phone, she was stunned into silence. Roxas had pushed Sora into a wall? What was going on?

 

Sora furrowed his eyebrows, though he didn't lift a hand to force Roxas to release his shirt. He had something to say before he did anything else. "I feel enough regret without opening up," he said, using the same tone of voice he had before. "Whether I'm being stubborn or not, I have my reasons for not talking about what happened over the past two months. Leave it alone."

 

Roxas didn't know what came over him next, but he brought his foot forward, pressing it against Sora's ankle. "Why should I? What if I'm worried about you, huh? That's not a good enough reason to try to get you to open up to someone else?" he said, staring at Sora. He was getting aggravated that Sora wouldn't just tell him what was wrong. Friends were supposed to try and help each other, weren't they?

 

Sora grunted, feeling Roxas's foot pressing hard against his previously-wounded ankle. "Ouch, man," he hissed, "Get off my ankle!" If he was so worried, then why was he risking Sora getting re-injured? Roxas was acting illogically, and it didn't make much sense to Sora. Fine, so he was worried. But Sora was actually trying to do him a favor by protecting him from the horrible truth of what happened in Christmas Town.

 

"Just tell me what's wrong," Roxas said, having not heard Sora; he was so focused on getting information out of him that he ignored what his friend said. "Why is that so hard for you to do?"

Kairi's eyes were wide as she listened to what was happening on the other line. She almost yelled for Roxas to stop, but she couldn't find her voice. What was he doing to Sora? What was even happening over there?

 

"Lay off, Roxas!" Sora said, speaking through his teeth because of his tender ankle. He couldn't believe that his friend was putting him in a position like this. He was surprised, and angry. He was about to lash out, the frustration building up inside him so much that he was ready to burst.

 

"No!" Roxas said, his voice slightly higher than before. "Not until you tell me what's wrong." The fact that Sora wasn't opening up made Roxas angry, but at the same time he was worried. Frustration and concern were triggering his actions, which he vaguely noticed were bad for what was going on here.

 

Sora furrowed his eyebrows, shutting his eyes at the pain being brought up in his ankle. After a second more of the pain, his eyes snapped open, the something inside the brunet snapping as well. He brought up his hands and shoved Roxas off him, his blue eyes showing his fury. "Fine! I don't talk about it because I almost died there, alright?!" He didn't expect Roxas to respond to his question, though; he was going to keep talking, because Roxas had brought him to his breaking point.

 

Roxas stumbled back a few steps before he caught himself, finally finding balance as he stood in the living room. He looked up at his friend with wide eyes, surprised at the action Sora made and the words he'd finally spoken.

Kairi stared wide-eyed at her bedspread as she sat on it, much like she had been doing for the past few minutes. Sora... He almost died?

 

Sora stared at Roxas with stone-hard eyes, his fists tight by his sides. "Heartless ambush. They...used a type of magic I had never seen before. I couldn't fight back. Riku had to drag me away from the battlefield, half conscious and barely alive." He gritted his teeth, his hands yearning for the feel of the Keyblades. However, he restrained himself, staring at Roxas as he continued. "I don't remember who I saw there because I was in too much pain to comprehend anything."

 

Roxas only stared at Sora as the words registered in his mind. He couldn't do anything but blink. What happened to Sora was much harsher than he thought, but then again, he thought his friend had gotten comfortable with somebody else.

Kairi covered her mouth at what she was hearing. She had thought something completely opposite had happened, but she was wrong. Completely wrong.

 

Sora shook his head, glaring at the ground as he continued speaking. "Nobody there could help me. I was in agonizing pain for another hour until Riku could get me to the Gummi Ship and to Hollow Bastion. Aerith used her White Magic to heal me, but not before the healing process caused me more pain. I didn't think I would survive it, it was so overwhelming." He loosened a fist and then tightened it again immediately, wanting to summon his weapon very badly because of how upset he was.

 

Roxas didn't say anything, not sure what to say exactly. Hearing Sora's story was terrible, and the boy briefly glanced in the direction of his phone in his silence. Kairi... She was hearing all of this. The blond looked back to his Other, seeing that this was worse than he thought.

Kairi heard Sora from wherever Roxas has set his phone, loud and clear. It was heartbreaking to hear such a thing. He'd gone through so much pain, and here she was, assuming he had gotten with someone else. How could she?

 

Sora furrowed his eyebrows further over his eyes, shutting them at the memories that were now in his mind. "Aerith was surprised I survived the initial attack at all," Sora confessed, speaking through his teeth. "How could I have been so weak to be put under enough spells that they should have killed me?" He remembered the spell that started it all: the spell that made them appear as Kairi to him. He was furious at himself for mistaking something so dark for being her. That was what his shame was coming from, not from almost dying under their spells.
