Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas held out his hands slightly, being careful with the knowledge that Sora was on edge. "Sora, just calm down," he tried, but he had a feeling his friend wasn't going to listen to him. It seemed like things were beyond that point.

 

Sora opened his eyes at Roxas's words, the brunet immediately looking up and seeing him standing in the doorway. He wouldn't calm down now; Roxas had brought his anger to the surface, and it wouldn't go down easily. "Happy now?" he asked, rage, hurt, and sadness all coming through his voice at the same time.

 

Roxas blinked, surprise being the only emotion against his features. Happy? Of course he wasn't happy! How could he be when he just found out his best friend almost died?

Kairi had the urge to hang up the phone, not wanting to hear anymore of this conversation. She knew it would be the right thing to do, but she couldn't make herself do it. She just couldn't.

 

Sora stared at Roxas a moment longer before he did something rash. He quickly walked past his friend and into the entrance hall, reaching the door in only a second or two. He opened it and then stepped outside, slamming it shut behind him. Roxas had pushed him too far; he needed to leave before he said anything else, or did anything that he would regret.

 

Roxas stared after Sora in shock, silence surrounding him after the door was slammed shut. Maybe...he crossed the line with what he said, and did.

Kairi jumped slightly at the slam on the other line, only silence coming through the phone after that. Sora must have left, she assumed. She didn't even hear Roxas anymore.

 

Sora clenched his hands in fists, ignoring the pain he had in his ankle as he walked away from the home. He was boiling with anger, and he knew that he needed to chill out. There was no way he would see Kairi today; he needed to compose himself and bury this before anybody noticed him struggling. He was supposed to have it all together, but that wasn't the case at all.

 

Roxas glanced down at the ground, but then turned his head to look over where his phone was. Kairi. He walked quickly to his hiding spot and picked up his phone. "Kairi? Are you still there?" he asked softly.

"...Yes," Kairi answered quietly, shocked by all she had witnessed by ear. How could she have accused Sora of seeing somebody else?

"Did you...happen to hear all of that?" Roxas asked hesitantly, believing he already knew the answer. He could tell by her voice that she was clearly stunned, and so was he.

"Yeah... I did." Kairi bit her lip after she spoke, looking down at the pictures in front of her. She felt ashamed of herself. And she felt bad for Sora. He had no idea that the questioning had been encouraged by her.

 

Sora kept his head lowered when he walked by somebody on the sidewalk, the teen still steaming with anger and pain. The pain was both physical and emotional, since Roxas had shoved him against the wall and then applied heavy pressure to his wounded ankle. "What was he thinking!?" he mumbled, tightening his fists at the thought of what just happened.

 

"Are you alright?" Roxas asked. After all, hearing that from somebody Kairi loved was probably hard to absorb. He figured she was having a harder time than he was.

Kairi shook her head, desipte the fact Roxas couldn't see. "No, not really," she admitted softly.

"Sorry you had to hear all that," Roxas apologized then. And then he realized that he owed Sora an apology as well, whenever the time was right. When he didn't hear her reply, he spoke again. "Maybe you should call Sora and have him come over. He's having a hard time... He probably needs you."

"Yeah. I'll call him," Kairi said, though she wasn't sure it was a good idea. Sora seemed very upset, and she wasn't sure that having him over to her house was a good idea. After all, she was the one who had Roxas even talk to him.

 

Sora took in a deep breath, loosening his fists a little bit. He had to find the power to make this anger disappear, at least for a short while. He was in a public place; he couldn't show how upset he was. As soon as he got home, he would lock himself in and then hit a punching bag or something. He would summon his Keyblades if he had to. He would do whatever he had to do in order to help himself hide the anger again.

 

After apologizing to Roxas, Kairi hung up the phone and hesitated. Calling Sora was going to be hard, and she knew that because he was so angry, he probably didn't want to be bothered. She would probably have to come up with some excuse as to why he should visit her. Kairi didn't like the idea, but she dialed Sora's number anyway. Whatever happened, happened.

 

Sora felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, which startled him enough to make him uncurl his fists. Without thought, he reached into his jeans and pulled it out, seeing that it was Kairi. Take a breath, he told himself. You can cover up your anger. Just make it a quick call. He exhaled a long breath and then took in another one, the teen pushing a button to answer the call right after he brought it to his ear. "Hello?"

 

"Sora?" Kairi said, hating how she sounded as nervous as she felt. She hated to admit that she was slightly afraid of how he would react to her, but it wasn't something she could really control. After hearing what just happened, it was involuntary.

 

Even through his anger, Sora could tell that Kairi didn't sound normal. He walked around a corner and stopped, leaning himself up against the wall as he calmed himself down further. Kairi couldn't know he was upset; he was supposed to be the one to have it all together. "What's up, Kairi?" he asked, his tone almost sounding normal.

 

"Um..." Kairi started softly. "Can you come over, please?" She figured she would ask first. If that didn't work, then she would come up with something...even if it was a lie.

 

Sora brought a hand to his forehead, fighting the urge to sigh. Bad timing, Kairi. "I'm sorry, Kai, but now's not really a good time. Could you hang out with Namine instead?" He really was sorry, since he never wanted to pass up the opportunity to see Kairi. But letting her see him like this would have been a huge mistake, and he wasn't stupid enough to let that happen.

 

"No... I don't think that's a good idea," Kairi replied, being somewhat honest. She wasn't doing her best either, so if Namine saw her like this, it wouldn't exactly help things; Namine had her own problems to deal with, after all.

 

Sora brought his hand away from his forehead, not sure what to say to that. He should have asked why Kairi said what she did, but he was a bit messed up at that moment. He couldn't think of the right thing to say, so he stayed silent.

 

"I'm actually a little scared," Kairi admitted, not lying at all that time. She was somewhat afraid of how Sora would react once he realized that she was the one who pushed Roxas to ask all those questions because she was suspicious. And once he found that out, he'd probably be even more upset with her.

 

Sora's eyes widened, the teen leaving his own troubles in the dust. "Scared of what?" he asked immediately, concern rising in his voice. What could she possibly be afraid of? Was something wrong with her?
