Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Kairi silently walked down the hallway a few feet and turned into the living room, seeing that Sora hadn't moved from his spot, not that she had expected him to. She approached the couch and stopped in front of him, tapping his shoulder and holding out the water bottle to him. "Here," she said softly.

 

Sora brought his hand off his forehead, opening his eyes and looking up at Kairi. "Thanks," he said automatically, reaching out his hand and taking the bottle out of her hand.

 

"Sure." Kairi took her seat beside Sora on the couch once again, leaning back in silence. She wasn't sure where things would go from here, and she didn't know how to feel about that.

 

Sora opened up the bottle without a problem, the teen then lifting it to his lips and drinking some of it. He had to admit, the coolness in his throat helped calm him down a little more. He lowered the drink and twisted the cap back on, a soft sigh leaving his lips as he leaned into the back of the couch.

 

Kairi glanced at Sora, but otherwise turned her gaze down to her hands in her lap. She wished things weren't like this between her and her boyfriend, somebody she had only gotten back together with a few days before. If things were already like this, what was ahead in their future as a couple?

 

Sora set the water on the table beside him, feeling the heaviness in the air around them. "I really am sorry," he said softly, his eyes lowered to his hands in his lap. "I'm...a mess, right now." He didn't like confessing that to Kairi, but he felt as if she had a right to know that much.

 

"I think we both kinda are right now," Kairi confessed softly, knowing she wasn't completely healed yet either; she still had some problems of her own to recover from. She turned her head to gaze at the boy beside her. "But if you're willing to, I think we can both overcome our problems together. That's what we always did before, wasn't it?"

 

Sora felt Kairi's gaze on him and he turned his head to face her, nodding once at her words. "Right. That's what we always did before," he said, repeating what she said. It was true, and he hoped that it applied to the future as well. He turned his head forward again, looking towards the wall. "Someday it'll all work out," he said softly, trying to convince himself of that.

 

Kairi nodded slightly, letting her eyes fall when Sora looked away. Right. Things always worked out for them in the end. They would do the same now, right? Hopefully not everything had changed about their relationship while they were seperated.

 

Sora took in a soft breath, his gaze going down to the floor. If he wanted to move on, then he needed to have hope and believe that he could make it past this. He was strong enough, as long as Kairi was by his side. He blinked at that thought, surprised at how easily it had popped up. Still, that was the truest thing he had thought in a long time.

 

Kairi sat there in silence with Sora, not feeling the need to fill it. Perhaps that was something natural between them; neither ever really had to constantly say something. They were comfortable with each other even through silence. Kairi knew that hadn't changed, because she could feel it now.

 

Sora allowed himself to enjoy Kairi's presence, the teen relaxing more deeply into the back of the couch. Together, they could overcome anything. They had proven that in the past, and even though things had changed a lot, he had a feeling that their ability to be together and work through problems hadn't. We'll make it through this. I know we will.

 

A day or two later...

Roxas walked hand in hand with Namine beside him, the two strolling through the park. The last day or two had been pretty quiet, and he knew why: he'd gotten on Sora's bad side. He never knew such a thing really existed until now, but with his friend not taking his calls and ignoring his texts, it was kind of obvious.

 

Namine looked down at the ground as she walked, seeing her breath in front of her. It was still February, so it was a little cold out. Still, she was out with Roxas. Since they had spoken in Sora's kitchen, things had started to improve. Namine felt more relaxed around him again, and she could tell he was really trying to make things right again. She appreciated how he didn't give up, and she felt glad that he was holding her hand now as they had a casual walk through the park.

Sora held onto Kairi's hand as they walked through the park, the brunet casually looking over the area. Ever since their talk on the couch, Kairi had kept her promise and not brought up the mission again. He was thankful for that, because he had taken the past day or two to cool down so that his sorrow on the subject didn't show on the surface anymore. It was still eating at him, but at least nobody else could see it now. At least, that was what he thought.

 

Roxas tucked his free hand in his coat pocket, exhaling a soft breath, a small cloud forming in front of him as he did so. He glanced at Namine out of the corner of his eye before looking forward again. Their walk was silent and casual, and he didn't mind that at all; it let him know that things were getting back to normal, even if it was a slightly slower process than he thought. Not only that, but after his problems with Sora, this was one of the brighter events of his life right now.

Kairi's gaze was focused on the ground for the moment, the girl quiet ever since she and Sora left her house. He had suggested a walk, surprisingly, which she was up for after being cooped up in the house lately. Things between them were quiet since the other day, but that was okay; things were getting on the right track again, and that was all that really mattered to her. Of course, she was still worried about Sora, but she didn't try to let it show; he needed his privacy sometimes, and she was going to give it to him.

 

Namine looked up after a few moments, looking at the path in front of them and around their area at the trees and benches. She did a double-take and looked back at the path, though, when she saw two people she recognized. Sora and Kairi? She blinked, surprised to see her friends here as well. What were the odds they would randomly run into each other here?

Sora ran his thumb over Kairi's hand without thought, seeing that there weren't many people in the park today. That, and he saw that there wasn't a threat. No matter where Sora went with Kairi, he was always on the lookout. After being away for so long, he couldn't help but be a little on edge when it came to her safety. He had just gotten her back, and he didn't want to lose her.

 

Roxas's eyes lingered on a melting snowman nearby, the boy not really paying attention today. He had a lot on his mind, but when didn't he these days? It seemed that there was always something, no matter what. It saddened him a little, but he knew that was life. He had to keep his chin up, even if it was hard.

Kairi squeezed Sora's hand slightly when she felt his motion against her cold skin. She could feel her nose going numb as they continued their walk, but she didn't care; they needed this after all the time they spent inside. Whenever they were outdoors, things were somehow better. Kairi bet it was because she and Sora had been so active outside at Destiny Islands, though the weather was the opposite.

 

Sora smiled faintly when Kairi squeezed his hand, the boy continuing to run his thumb lightly over her skin. The weather was chilly, but he didn't notice cold or warm weather anymore because of the extreme climates he had endured during his mission.

Namine looked to Roxas, though she could tell by his facial expression that he hadn't seen Sora and Kairi. She lightly nudged him, keeping her eyes on him with the motion. He would be just as surprised as she was to see their friends here, but Namine wasn't sure if the surprise would be a good one or not.

 

Roxas's head turned sharply toward Namine, the boy alert by her nudge. His eyes held wonder in them, the boy curious as to what she wanted when he met her gaze.

 

Namine motioned towards Sora and Kairi lightly with her head, her eyes staying on Roxas so that she would see his reaction. She knew things weren't quite right between the two boys, and she wondered how he would react to seeing Sora right now.
