Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas followed Namine's head motion, his eyes gazing forward. When he finally spotted what she had obviously been wanting him to see, he blinked slightly in surprise. What were the chances that Sora and Kairi would be here? Roxas, however, didn't know whether to take it as a good sign. He glanced back at Namine, at the same time bringing his free hand up to rub over the back of his spikes.

 

Namine saw the look in Roxas's eyes and she lightly squeezed his hand in a comforting way. It was coincidence that they were approaching their friends, but now that the boys were forced to recognize each other, maybe they could patch things up.

Sora glanced at Kairi before he looked over the area surrounding them again, his eyes wandering over by the pond, to the two people on the path coming towards them, and to the trees on the other side of the path. Wait a second...He shifted his sight back to the path, his eyes widening slightly when he recognized the people. Roxas and Namine.

 

Roxas rubbed his hand a couple times over the back of his hair as he looked at Namine, then at the couple they were approaching. He lowered his hand the moment he met Sora's eyes, then letting his sight fall to the ground. He knew instantly that they weren't going to just pass each other; they were going to greet each other, of course. But he knew that this also was a chance for him to try to set things right. After all, Sora hadn't called or texted back, so the fact that they were about to be face to face could help him talk to him...if he could remember what he wanted to say.

 

Sora turned to look at Kairi, his startled-feeling appearing in his eyes. "Namine and Roxas?" he asked softly, his voice reflecting his thoughts. Had he been set up yet again? He didn't think Kairi would pull that kind of stunt on him, considering that he had yelled at her the last time she had manipulated him. But what were the chances that seeing Roxas and Namine here was coincidence?

 

Kairi looked up at Sora when she heard the names. "What?" she asked, confused. What was Sora talking about? Were Namine and Roxas nearby? The girl turned her head to look around, and her eyes instantly fell on the couple just yards away from them, coming toward them along the path. She blinked in surprise. They were here too?

 

Sora turned to look forward as well, seeing that Namine and Roxas were only a few steps away now. So, it wasn't a set-up, he thought, having heard the confusion in Kairi's voice. He was glad for that much; he couldn't have handled being manipulated again in such a short period of time.

 

Kairi kept her eyes on the couple for the moment, making eye-contact with Roxas. She lifted her free hand slightly and waved, still confused. Obviously Sora hadn't called them. This must have been coincidence that they were here at the same time.

Roxas gave an awkward smile, waving back weakly. Great, so what was he supposed to do now? He couldn't remember half the stuff he meant to say to Sora a day or two ago. And now he was getting the sense of deja vu; this had happened before in the past, he knew it. But there was nothing he could do about this now. He squeezed Namine's hand for reassurance as they grew closer to Sora and Kairi, his eyes moving to the blonde for a second or two.

 

Namine lightly squeezed Roxas's hand back, able to tell that he was nervous. She hoped that despite that, the two boys could talk things out and come to an understanding. She and Roxas came to a stop in front of Sora and Kairi, and she noticed her two friends stop at the same time so that they didn't run into them. "Hi guys," she said, bringing up a hand and giving a small wave.

Sora brought his free hand to the back of his head, running it over his spikes without thought. "Hi," he said back, looking at the two blonds in front of him. He hoped he didn't sound as awkward as he felt; he was a little stunned to see Roxas after what had happened between them.

 

Kairi smiled lightly, looking at Roxas and then at Namine. "What're the chances that we'd run into you here?" she said, pure curiosity in her voice. She hadn't really talked to either of the two blondes for the last day or so, even if she had texted Roxas a few times to tell him how sorry she was for what she put him through.

Roxas shrugged slightly, forcing a small smile. The chances were probably pretty slim, but so was the possibility that he and Sora would actually talk today.

 

Namine laughed softly a few times, shaking her head slightly. "Yeah, I was surprised to see you two here," she said honestly. "I guess it's a small world."

Too small, Sora thought to himself, lowering his hand from the back of his head after a moment. He looked up to Namine and then looked to Roxas. He could see that the smile his friend wore was forced, as was the small one that Sora was wearing.

 

Kairi looked from Namine to Roxas, and then Roxas to Sora. Her smile stayed the same, despite the expressions she could see on the boys' faces; they were forcing kindness. It was such a guy move to pull, she realized. "Guess so," she said in agreement to Namine's words.

Roxas felt his smile falter when his eyes met Sora's, and he held the gaze without much thought. He wasn't exactly afraid, but curious. Something about Sora had changed while he was away, and Roxas knew exactly what event triggered the transformation. After all, Sora had yelled it to him the other day.

 

Sora glanced down at the ground, seeing Roxas trying to read his expression. After a moment of thinking, though, he looked up, his gaze landing on Kairi by his side and then Namine. "Could you two...give us a minute?" he asked politely, hiding the tenseness rising up inside of him.

 

Kairi looked from Sora to Namine, then from her to Roxas. She saw that curious glint in the blond boy's eyes, so she figured they really did need to talk. It would be good for them. At least, she hoped there was a good turn out. Kairi let her eyes fall back on Sora and she nodded, at the same time squeezing his hand. "Sure," she said softly.

 

Namine nodded right away, her eyes on Sora because he had asked the request. She glanced over at Roxas before she squeezed his hand lightly, then removing her hand from his grasp. The two boys probably wanted some privacy, so she and Kairi would have to walk off somewhere to give them that.

Sora looked back to Kairi when she squeezed his hand, a small smile forming at the gesture. "Thanks," he said with a nod, referring to her verbal response and her motion. He wasn't looking forward to facing Roxas, but it needed to be done.

 

Roxas looked down at Namine when she squeezed his hand, the boy's hand naturally forming a light fist when she released her grasp on him. He wasn't too excited for this, but he and Sora really did need to talk after what happened a few days ago. It was for the best.

Kairi gently let go of Sora's hand, her eyes lingering on him for one more moment before she turned her gaze to Namine. Since she and her friend were dismissed, she believed it was time they left. She walked forward, at the same time making it so she didn't run into Namine. She looked around for a place they could go to leave the boys alone.

 

Namine turned her head to follow Kairi's movements at first, then turning her body around and following her best friend when she walked past. She didn't dare glance back at Sora and Roxas, wanting them to have their privacy. I hope things go well, she thought. They were best friends, and Namine didn't like to see them fight.

Sora kept his eyes on Kairi when she walked away, his hand forming a fist now. He scanned the whole area behind Roxas, seeing if there were any odd-looking people in that area. There weren't though, so Sora felt as if it were alright for both girls to be out little ways away from him and Roxas.

 

Roxas glanced over his shoulder when both girls walked away, watching them go for a few seconds before he turned back to face forward. He glanced at Sora and then looked to the ground. How was he going to start this off?

 

Sora stuffed his hands into his coat pockets, both of them being fists. He had been angry at Roxas ever since their discussion the other day, and even though he had buried it so Kairi wouldn't see it, he felt it rising up now. Strangely, he had no desire to suppress that anger; Roxas deserved it.

 

Roxas guessed he could start off by declaring that Sora never returned his texts or calls, but then again, that probably wasn't a good idea. Something could go wrong from that. "So..." he started, bringing a hand up to run through his spikes as he lifted his hand to Sora. "I guess you found out what was really going on..." After the texts Roxas had received from Kairi, that was the impression he got.

 

"I did," Sora confirmed with a nod. He looked up to Roxas, offering an explanation that his friend hadn't even asked for. "Kairi called me and lied to me about somebody breaking into her house so that I would go to her house. She explained everything then." He didn't appreciate that she lied, but he wasn't going to show his rage of being manipulated to Kairi. He had already yelled at her once, and he decided he would never do that again. So, he would have to settle with yelling at Roxas instead.
