Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas nodded. That was good, except for the lying part. "I suggested that she call you," he admitted then, even though he hadn't known about the breaking-in part. "I figured after what happened you could use her support." Roxas obviously hadn't helped much.

 

"Hmph." Sora pulled his hands of out his pockets, folding his arms across his chest. "You were in no position to judge what I could or couldn't use, Roxas," he said in a lower tone of voice. "You were the one who brought that all to the surface, even if Kairi had asked you to talk to me. She did her part, but I bet she didn't suggest you shove me against the wall and hurt my ankle again. Did she?" He arched a brow at Roxas, though he already knew the answer to his own question. No, Kairi would have never wanted Roxas to use physical force.

 

Roxas's eyebrows furrowed instantly at Sora's tone and words, but he couldn't deny any of them. He stared at Sora for a few seconds and then lowered his eyes to the ground, though his expression didn't change. No, she hadn't asked him to do that. She never would've requested such a thing; that was all him. And by the way Sora asked the question, he already knew that.

 

Sora furrowed his brows, looking down at the ground when he received silence as his answer. "You shouldn't have stuck your nose in my business, Roxas," he said more softly, his tone tense. Now that all this was on surface-level again, he had no choice but to deal with all the feelings that the incident brought him. He wished he could bury it all again and forget about it, but he knew that this time, things were different.

 

"I've said sorry," Roxas told Sora, not looking up from the ground. Of course, Sora should have known that. And Roxas meant it. He realized he made a mistake. What else did Sora think his calls and texts were full of?

 

Sora shook his head, keeping his gaze downward. "Sorry doesn't cut it sometimes," he said, furrowing his eyebrows a little more. Roxas had made a big mistake ticking him off for a second time, and Sora wanted to be sure that Roxas would never make that mistake again. If that were to happen again, Sora didn't think he could stop himself from doing something irrational.

 

"I can see that," Roxas murmured, more to himself than to Sora. He finally lifted his gaze from the sidewalk and looked up at his friend, seeing how serious and tense he appeared. "But if you hadn't ignored texts and phone calls, you could've seen that I realized what mistake I made." Not taking calls or replying to messages was a little middle school for Roxas, but he guessed he deserved it after what he did.

 

"I had my reasons for not responding," Sora said, unfolding his arms and curling his hands into fists. He stuffed them into his coat pockets, keeping his glare on the ground. "If I responded right away, then I would have done something I would have regret." Sora was close to losing his temper now, but this was nothing compared to the anger he felt a day or two ago.

 

Roxas was about to ask what kind of action that would have been, but he decided against it; it wasn't worth getting Sora even more upset with him. And plus, he didn't really want to know. It didn't matter either way. So instead the blond stayed silent, keeping his eyes on Sora.

 

Sora exhaled a soft breath, calming himself down. He had a right to feel anger, but he wasn't about to go over the top with it. "I really wish you two didn't know about that," he said quietly, some sadness in his voice. Thankfully, though, Roxas and Kairi thought he was just shaken up over nearly losing his life. At least they didn't know the rest of it.

 

Roxas's eyes softened and lowered to the ground slightly. "We wish you hadn't gone through it," he said, glancing up at his friend before his eyes fell again. Hearing it had been bad, and he knew how sour things were when he had to go home. To hear that something worse had happened was upsetting.

 

"I...left out an important detail to the story, though," Sora confessed, glancing up at Roxas before he looked back down at the ground. "Coming that close to death was terrifying, but I won't say what the worst part of it was. I honestly can't say it. I'm too ashamed over it." Mistaking a Heartless to be Kairi was a big deal to him, and it brought up a lot of shame inside his heart.

 

"Then don't," Roxas said. He looked back up at Sora, his eyebrows having pulled together when his friend spoke. "There was a reason you left it out, and honestly, I don't think I wanna know." He had enough dark stories for now. He didn't really want to hear something worse than his friend coming close to death.

 

Sora looked up at Roxas's words, appreciating it deep down inside. He nodded wordlessly, signifying that he wouldn't say it. This was something that would stay between him and Riku, and since his friend wasn't around, that meant that it was all on Sora. It was best that way, though; he didn't want anybody else knowing about his errors.

 

Roxas lifted a hand to run over the back of his head as he took in a breath, knowing it was his turn to speak. "Um, anyway, I know this is already out in the open," he started, "but I think you still deserve a direct apology. So..." Roxas straightened slightly, his hand falling back to his side. "I'm sorry, Sora. I shouldn't have treated you like I did, or forced the information out of you. It was wrong of me to do that, and I hope you can come to forgive me." He didn't need to be forgiven today, even if that would be nice, but all that mattered was that eventually his best friend could do that at all.

 

Sora looked down at the ground, hearing Roxas's apology. He understood that his friend was regretful over it all, but Sora had been given an apology before, when Roxas stormed out of his home in anger. He didn't know whether to believe that the apology was sincere or not. "I just have one more thing to say before we move past this," he said, lifting his eyes and looking up at Roxas.

 

Roxas nodded wordlessly, still looking at Sora. Whatever his friend had to say, he would listen and take it to heart. He was tired of the problems between them, but he knew he mostly caused them. Aware of that, he knew it was time to grow up and set things right.

 

"You've crossed me two times in the short period that I've been home," Sora started, eyebrows furrowing slightly at the memory of their past incidents. "You've apologized for both, and I'll forgive you, but know this: Next time you do something that stupid, you'll be suffering from more than guilt."

 

Roxas felt his eyebrows furrow more at the words, the corners of his lips turning down some. Regardless, he nodded. He would accept the threat. He deserved it, after all.

 

"It's not meant as a threat," Sora declared, taking his fists out of his coat pockets. "It's a warning. I've been running low on patience when it comes to this kind of stuff, and I can't take any more of it without losing my temper." The brunet meant what he was saying; Roxas was supposed to be his best friend, there for him through everything. Instead of that, they had been butting heads lately.
