Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Kairi peeked around the corner beside Namine, her eyes immediately finding Sora and Roxas in aprons. Well, this certainly was a sight.

Roxas stood at the counter, working on chopping some vegetables for the salad. He was already skilled with a sharp weapon, so using a knife wasn't a problem. Right now, there was only silence, so nothing would distract him either. But he could feel a gaze on him, which made him start to lose his focus.

 

Sora looked down at the ground, a frown on his lips. "How come you get to do something fun?" he muttered. Roxas must have been having a better time chopping vegetables than he was, just waiting for bread to bake. It was like watching paint dry.

 

"Because I've done this before," Roxas said, not turning around. He continued chopping the vegetables, aware that it was Sora who must have been looking at him. Now that he was talking, he didn't feel tense from the gaze. He furrowed his eyebrows as he did his work, not wanting to accidentally cut himself. Not that it was a problem, after all. He was skilled in wielding blades.

 

"How hard can it be?" Sora asked, lightly shrugging. "And anyway, you just told me to keep an eye on the bread so that you wouldn't have to do it," he continued, furrowing his brows. Roxas had given him a boring job, and he got to handle a knife and cut vegetables. His friend definitely got the better part of the deal.

 

"It's more difficult than you think when you have someone complaining over your shoulder," Roxas said, turning slightly to look over his shoulder at Sora. His chopping had come to a stop for now as he gazed at his friend, eyebrows furrowed. He was lucky he hadn't been running around like Roxas had been a while ago; that was crazy.

 

Sora shrugged lightly, his gaze staying on Roxas. "If you want me to stop complaining, then let me actually do something," he said, eyebrows furrowed a little bit. He didn't even know how long this bread had to bake; how long was he supposed to leave it in there?

 

"Okay, fine." Roxas motioned to the noodles he'd gotten out, deciding to make the same dinner he did for Namine. After all, he didn't know how to cook anything else. "Pour the noodles in a boiling pot of water and watch them. Think you can handle that?"

Kairi put a hand over her mouth, wanting to laugh at the boys' bickering. It never stopped, did it?

 

"Watch them?" Sora repeated, arching a brow. "That's so boring!" Watch the bread, watch the noodles...why couldn't he actually do something? He wasn't going to wreck an entire meal, even if he made a small error. At least, that was what he thought.

By this point, Namine had pulled out the camera, and she had been recording for quite some time now. It was hard not to laugh at the two of them, but she knew she had to keep her urge to giggle under control so that she and Kairi wouldn't be caught snooping.

 

"Well what else is there to do?" Roxas countered, giving Sora the same look he was receiving. It really was like looking in a mirror, but that wasn't the point. The thing was, Sora was complaining and Roxas was trying not to mess up. The two combined was not good.

 

"You tell me," Sora said, continuing to arch an eyebrow at his best friend. Roxas knew how to cook this meal, apparently from a time he had made it for Namine. If anybody knew what to do next, it was him, not Sora. The brunet was pretty clueless, but if Roxas just told him something productive he could do, then he would be content.

 

Roxas sighed, bringing a hand to his hair. "What do you want to do?" he asked. "All I did last time was make spaghetti and bake garlic bread. This...salad thing is new." He motioned at the items on the counter next to him, his wording showing how much he lacked in cooking. "You have another idea?"

Kairi knew there was a smile on her face, but it couldn't be seen due to her hand covering it. She had to bite her lip to prevent laughter from leaving her. Roxas really wasn't a chef, was he?

 

Sora shrugged lightly, his hands lowered to his side. "I have no clue about anything," he said honestly. "And neither do you. Why are we doing this again?" He and Roxas were both close to clueless when it came to cooking, and yet the girls had sent them to the kitchen to make dinner. Not the smartest move on their part, in his opinion.

 

Roxas frowned and leaned back against the counter, crossing his arms. "The girls want to torture us," he answered, staring at the floor. He was wearing an apron, chopping vegetables. Seriously?

 

Namine turned her face away, suppressing her giggles. So, that was how they saw it, huh? Oh well, she wasn't offended by it. This was humorous, and she was very entertained watching it all.

"They're doing a good job," Sora said, looking down at the ground. "Their not even here inflicting damage; we're doing it ourselves." The food probably wouldn't turn out too good in the end, or they wouldn't finish it at all, at the rate they were going.

 

Roxas lifted his eyes to Sora, giving him a look. "Dude, I'm wearing an apron for them," he said. He then shook his head, exhaling a breath. "Namine better be thankful for this." Even if the dinner didn't come out right, he was risking his pride for this.

 

Sora looked over at Roxas's apron, then looking down at the one he wore. "You know what?" he asked, not waiting for an answer. "I'm taking this stupid thing off. It's not like I need it, since I have the important job of 'watching bread'." He brought his hands around the back and started to untie it right away, the brunet ready to take it off.

 

"Right," Roxas said, his voice holding sarcasm. He looked away then, returning his sight to the floor. He wasn't sure what to even cook. And if he did have something for Sora to do, he would tell him. But he really couldn't think of anything. What if Namine didn't want the same dinner again?

 

Sora took off the apron, tossing it onto the empty counter. He then turned back to the oven, his eyes widening slightly at the sight. "Roxas? How long was I supposed to leave that bread in?" he asked immediately, his eyes locked on the see-through door of the oven.

 

"Eight minutes," Roxas answered. "Why?" He didn't look up from the floor, too busy thinking about if the brownies were really worth going through this. Yeah, last time cooking dinner had been done willingly, but he felt forced into it this time. It felt like the time at Kairi's all over again. Roxas then wondered if cleaning the basement was less harsh than this.

 

Sora reached for an oven mitt, not responding right away. "Because I'm pretty sure it's been over eight minutes," he said, pulling the oven door open and turning his head away when a little bit of smoke came out of the oven. He had been so busy bickering with Roxas that he hadn't noticed them burning, until now.
