Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas stared at the food on his plate with excited blue eyes. He was starving, but at the same time he couldn't keep his eyes away from Namine very long. He turned his head to look at her beside him, his gaze dancing over her blonde hair and cute face. With her help, as well as Kairi's, in the kitchen, he hadn't needed to wear a stupid apron. He was glad too; he hated those things, and he didn't need one to get the job done.

Kairi glanced at Sora after taking a drink of water, seeing that he was gazing across the table. She followed his gaze to the blonde couple, immediately noticing the look in Roxas's eyes. The redhead smiled to herself as she turned her eyes to her food. Namine did a great job at distracting Roxas; it still had an effect.

 

Namine felt a gaze on her, and she knew who it was immediatly. She looked over at Roxas, a soft smile on her lips. Maybe I overdid it, she thought, seeing that he was still...uh, different. Oh well; she would worry about it later. She picked up her fork and looked back to her plate, twirling her spaghetti around her silverware.

Sora looked away, nearly gagging at the way that Namine had him wrapped around his finger. Oh well, at least it wasn't that way with Sora and Kairi; the brunet knew fully well that he needed to get that video, eh was just...taking a break. But he would get back on it as soon as he finished eating. He picked up his fork and dug in, leaving his previous thoughts behind.

 

Roxas let his eyes linger on Namine for a little while longer before a whiff of his spaghetti hit him, the boy turning his gaze to that. He picked up his fork and started digging in, twirling some spaghetti before stuffing it in his mouth.

Kairi picked up her fork and smiled slightly as she spun the spaghetti. "This wasn't so hard, huh?" she asked the boys, referring to dinner. They did a great job once they had guidance. Poor Roxas hadn't a clue what he was doing before, which he willingly admitted after another small bicker between him and Sora happened. But now everything was going well, and when Kairi brought the fork to her mouth, she knew the dinner was delicious.

 

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Sora said around the food, keeping his gaze on his plate as he kept eating. He wished that the girls would have helped sooner; dinner would have been ready much sooner if that had happened. That, and the bread wouldn't be in the garbage.

 

Roxas swallowed some of his food before speaking. "Half the reason it was so hard before was because we were forced into it," he pointed out, staring at Kairi and then moving his gaze to Namine. Of course, his gaze softened a little when he looked at her, but then he distracted himself with more food.

Kairi smiled. "Oh, you guys were doing a good job without us earlier," she said. "You just got a little...distracted. And I'm not talking about us." She motioned from her to Namine, referring to the video camera issue.

 

Namine smiled softly, both at Roxas's gaze and at Kairi's mention. "Of course, I'm sure Ty enjoyed having a bit of the meal as well," she said, referring to the bread that he had been given. Even if it wasn't edible for any of the people at the table, her pet had enjoyed it very much.

 

"Sora," Roxas stated pointedly, talking around his food. Sora was the one who burned the bread in the first place, when he had requested he watched it. He gave his friend a look across the table, still at him about the bread incident.

 

Sora rolled his eyes at the look that Roxas was giving him, the brunet aware of the mistake he made. "Whatever," he mumbled around the food, swallowing before he kept speaking. "It's not like I actually let the house catch on fire." He arched a brow at Roxas, remembering in the infamous "ham incident".

 

"Hey, it wasn't the whole house," Roxas countered, pointing his fork at Sora as he spoke. "Just a tiny bit of the kitchen." And nothing had been that damaged from the small accident. He looked down at his food and started eating again, knowing that was another thing Sora wasn't going to let him live down.

 

Sora shrugged lightly, continuing to look at his best friend. "I'd still say that the mistake you made was worse than mine," he said, shifting his gaze to the girl beside Roxas. "Right, Namine?"

Namine shook her head quickly, looking at Sora when he spoke to her. "Hey, don't put me in the middle of this," she said, not wishing to be caught in the middle. She supposed that Roxas's error did have greater consequences, but she wasn't about to say that out loud.

 

Roxas looked up at Sora, furrowing his eyebrows. He swallowed his food and then spoke. "I asked you to watch bread," he pointed out, again. "That's completely different than ham." Ham took forever to cook, and was more difficult in his opinion. Bread took eight minutes, and Sora couldn't pay attention long enough to realize it was done.

 

"Watching bread was like watching paint dry," Sora said, cut up some more of his spaghetti while he spoke. "If you had that job, then you would have been too bored to pay attention too." He and Roxas were alike in a lot of ways, one of them being how easily bored they were when it came to anything in the kitchen.

 

"Maybe, but I would have at least checked them after a few minutes," Roxas retorted, his food no longer within interest. He was focused on his conversation with Sora right now. The ham incident hit a nerve, but he tried to forget about it.

 

Sora snorted, shaking his head at Roxas's words. "I don't think you would," he confessed honestly. "If you left something bigger like ham alone, then you wouldn't have checked in on bread." Even if the ham incident had taken place a long time ago, nobody had forgotten about it, especially not Sora.

 

"Ham is more difficult to cook than garlic bread, Sora," Roxas said, not knowing what else to use as a comeback. "Gimme a break." And did Sora know that Roxas cooked a dinner like this all on his own a while ago? Probably not, but if Roxas mentioned it, then perhaps he could prove a point.

 

"Fine," Sora said, lifting his eyes to Roxas and leaving his spaghetti alone for a minute. "Ham is harder. But you know what's harder to do then make ham? Setting it on fire." At least Sora's bread hadn't burst into flames like the ham had for Roxas.

 

Roxas's lips formed a firm line, the boy's eyebrows furrowing even more. "Okay, fine. You got me," he admitted. "But did you know that I cooked a dinner like this all by myself for Namine? No help other than Kairi's recipe, and by myself." He motioned to the girl sitting beside him. "And she loved it," he said. Roxas then gave Sora a look as if to say, So what now?

 

Sora didn't know that Roxas had a made a meal for Namine, which surprised him a little. He was surprised both by his lack of knowledge and by the fact that Roxas had actually prepared a meal. He looked down at his food, putting some spaghetti in his mouth. "Or so she says," he mumbled around the food. He wouldn't have been surprised if Namine had been polite and said that she liked the meal just because Roxas had cooked it.

 

Roxas's grasp on his fork tightened at Sora's words, the boy glaring at his best friend across the table. Namine did like the meal, and ate all of it after complimenting on the first bite. She wouldn't lie about something like that...would she?

 

Namine knew that the conversation had taken a turn, with her now being brought into it. She didn't speak, though, not wanting to jump into the middle of things. She chewed on her spaghetti, hearing the quietness around everyone.
