Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas moved his hand from his hair to his face, sighing softly as he nodded wordlessly. Sleep sounded nice, and hopefully things would be easier to handle in the morning. He dropped his hand and leaned his head back against the cushions as he sat on the floor, closing his eyes.

Riku wasn't tired at the moment, so he was just going to stay up and think for a while. He was used to running on small hours of sleep, so it wouldn't bother him as much as the others.

 

Sora shifted his gaze to Riku, who was still sitting on the couch. "If you can't stay up with them the whole night, wake me and I will," he said quietly. Riku needed to rest as well, so Sora didn't mind watching over the girls, even if he was exhausted.

 

Riku nodded once in understanding, his eyes on Sora now. He wasn't sure if he liked the idea of doing that, considering Sora had a lot to do the next day. But if his friend prefered it that way, he would do so.

 

Once he got confirmation from Riku, Sora carefully laid himself down, his chest aching incredibly. Strangely, he felt as if he could breathe more easily when he was laying down. He exhaled a breath and shut his eyes, his head on the pillow.

 

Riku moved his eyes from Sora to the floor, going back to his thoughts. In just a few minutes, he'd be the only one awake. That was fine with him; he didn't mind keeping watch.

 

In a matter of seconds, Sora felt himself slipping, unconsciousness gripping him as he fell into a slumber. The pain faded as his senses dulled, the teen completely asleep in less than a minute.

 

Roxas could feel consciousness leaving him as he started to relax. His shoulder still throbbed, but he was trying to ignore it. The pain slowly started to melt away as he nodded off, soon completely forgetting his troubles and going to sleep.

 

The next morning...

Namine stirred on the loveseat, the girl feeling the sun shining on her form. She had managed to stretch out across the length of the furniture, though it was large enough to let her lay out completely. It made no difference to her, though, since she was asleep and free of the dizziness that had haunted her the previous night.

 

Riku had woken up Sora a few hours ago, as he requested, and was now sleeping himself. He leaned his head against his fist, sleeping lightly. He would surely wake up soon, not used to getting very much sleep.

Kairi had her back to the room, a small amount of space between her feet and Riku's form. She was sleeping peacefully, but she knew she would wake up soon; she had been sleeping for quite a while now.

Roxas had his held tilted on the couch behind him, sitting in front of Namine's form. He'd been sleeping pretty well for the most part, though he'd woken up a couple times during the night. His worries were messing with his ability to sleep well, Smith and Namine's condition constantly on his mind.

 

Sora sat up in the chair, his arms folded across his chest as he stared at the ground with half open eyes. He had gotten maybe four hours of sleep, and he knew that it would have to sustain him for the rest of the day. He would survive, though; there had been a few nights where he had gotten less sleep and had to perform harder tasks than just searching.

 

Kairi's eyebrows furrowed slightly in her sleep, moving a little as she slept and bringing her legs up a bit. "Sora..." she murmured, a dream of him taking over her mind for the moment. At the same time she could feel the dream fading, soon to wake up.

 

Sora glanced at Kairi on the couch, having heard her murmur his name. He sighed softly, directing his gaze back to the ground. He didn't know if she was dreaming, waking up, or already awake but he wasn't about to disturb her and find out. She at least needed to be well rested.

 

Kairi's eyebrows furrowed a little more in her sleep, a terrible image in her mind making her form the expression. She frowned and then she gasped, sitting up quickly in her spot. Her eyes shot open as she set her hands on either side of her on the couch, her heart racing in fear.

 

Sora's eyes widened at the gasp, his gaze immediately going back to Kairi on the couch when he saw her quick movement. "Kai?" he called, his voice softer than usual because his friends were asleep. "What's wrong?" She must have had a nightmare, he thought to himself, seeing her facial expression from where he sat.

 

Kairi continued to breathe heavily from fright, the girl turning her head to look in the direction of the voice. She pushed her hair away from her face so she could see Sora, the girl sighing and closing her eyes at the sight of him. Good, he was alright. She'd had a terrible nightmare of him fighting Nathaniel...and things hadn't turned out well in the end. Kairi was just glad that wasn't reality; that had been a horrible dream.

 

Sora tilted his head in concern, wondering if he should rise to his feet and go to her. But that would cause him a lot of pain in his chest, which he knew that Kairi would disapprove of. He wouldn't mind going through any pain he had to as long as he was near Kairi, but he knew that she wouldn't want him hurting himself.

 

"Bad dream," Kairi said softly. She let her hand fall from her hair as she opened her eyes, looking over at Sora. "Sorry." She hadn't meant to startle him, if that's what she had done. She knew she couldn't have woken him, since he seemed pretty awake, and nobody else had woken up to her gasp. Not even Riku.

 

"Don't apologize," Sora insisted softly. "It's alright." She had no reason to be sorry for having a bad dream; it wasn't exactly something that she could control. He kept his blue eyes on her, taking in her facial expression. She still looked a bit startled, and he wished that there was some way that he could take that feeling away from her.

 

Kairi nodded slightly, her eyes lingering on Sora before she looked down as she adjusted on the couch. She moved back so she was leaning against the arm of the couch, her shoulder resting agaisnt the back as she kept her knees drawn up; now there was a little more space between her and Riku. "How long have you been awake?" Kairi asked quietly, not wanting to disturb her friends' rest.

 

"A few hours." Sora had been woken up by Riku probably around 3:30 or 4, and he had been awake since then, keeping an eye on the girls while they slept. He was tired from only getting a few hours of sleep, but right now, their safety was more important than his physical condition. That was how things always were.
