Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas was still sleeping, his head tilted against the cushions of the couch as he sat on the floor. He had only stirred a little bit, but his exhaustion had been overwhelming the night before. He continued to sleep, unaware of Namine's waking behind him.

 

Namine sleepily opened her eyes, looking at her hand in front of her. She exhaled softly and pushed herself into an upright position, her legs folded slightly as they laid out to her side. She brought up a hand and wiped at her eyes, trying to get rid of her grogginess.

 

Riku currently sat in the kitchen with Kairi, eating his food. It had finished not long ago, and he realized how much he missed actual meals. Kairi's cooking was delicious.

Kairi was currently making more of the food she made for Riku, knowing that the others had to be waking up soon. Sora, she knew, would be a little longer. But Roxas and Namine had to be rising soon.

 

Namine pulled her hand away and blinked, looking around the room. Sora was asleep in a chair on the other side of the room, and in front of her...Her eyes softened, seeing Roxas asleep in front of her. He looked very tired, and she wondered how long he had been there. Regardless, she pushed her legs off the other side of the couch and softly rose to her feet, stretching a little to get rid of her stiffness.

 

Roxas continued to sleep, oblivious to Namine's movement from beside him. As exhausted as he was, he was going to wake up soon. His rest was coming to an end.

 

Namine blinked, wondering now where Riku and Kairi were. However, she felt as if the question was answered when she smelled a freshly made breakfast. They must be in the kitchen, she thought, the girl stepping over Roxas's legs quietly as she headed for that room.

 

Riku realized one thing: he had missed this part of his life. The feeling of home again. Even if this wasn't "home", he felt that way from the coziness of Kairi's place. He would say it must be nice, but he thought of the problem at hand here. Even these kinds of troubles couldn't be avoided on another world.

 

Namine tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, exiting the living room and entering the kitchen a few seconds later. She immediately noticed her two missing friends at the table, eating what she had smelled earlier.

 

Kairi turned away from the stove, the carton of eggs in her hand as she took them back to the fridge. Her eyes fell on the doorway, and the person in it. "Oh, good morning, Namine," she greeted with a small smile, opening the fridge and setting the carton inside.

Riku glanced up at the greeting, his eyes falling on the doorway as well. He chewed on a piece of bacon as he recognized Namine, seeing that she was awake now as well. Good. That was actually convenient; he could still watch over both of them now.

 

"Morning," Namine responded, her voice showing a little bit of grogginess. She had actually slept pretty well last night, though, she wasn't feeling overly sleepy. She was glad for that; she always felt uncomfortable when she was too groggy to behave like she normally did.

 

"I'm just about to finish more breakfast," Kairi said as she leaned up from the refridgerator. "Go ahead and have a seat." She smiled politely at her friend before turning around to tend to the food on the stove.

 

Namine took a seat at the table, her eyes going to her best friend once she was seated. "You need any help?" she asked. It would be rude of her not to offer, even if Kairi ended up saying that she didn't need help. Namine never took her friends for granted, ever.

 

Kairi shook her head. "Nope. I've got it," she insisted, tending to the eggs again. She'd been at this for a while now, and Namine was a guest in her house; she would make breakfast for everyone. She didn't mind.

Roxas groaned softly in his sleep, turning his head against the couch cushions to the other side. He was starting to wake up now, the blackness of his unconscious fading away. There was silence around him, which convinced him to continue sleeping, but then a smell reached his nose. That made him realize that life was still moving around him, and that he was indeed waking up.

 

Namine nodded faintly, her gaze going down to the table without thought. She brought up a hand and lightly let her cheek rest in it, the girl alright with the quietness that surrounded them. It wasn't light, considering why they were all at Kairi's house, but at least things didn't feel dangerous or overly tense.

 

Roxas's eyebrows pulled together as he groggily brought a hand to his face. What time is it? he wondered silently. He forced his eyes open then, squinting through the light in the room now. He knew then it was probably mid-morning, which meant he had slept for a while. He blinked to clear his vision, only to see that he and Sora were the only ones in the room. Where was everyone else?

 

Namine kept gazing down at the table, the silence reminding her of exactly what was going on. Smith was back. She exhaled a breath and shut her eyes, the girl having wished she dreamed it. But there was no doubt about it; this was reality.

 

Roxas picked up the smell of food instantly, and he felt his stomach grumble as a reaction. Oh, so everyone was in the kitchen then. The blond rubbed his eyes with his knuckles before pushing himself up from the floor, wincing at how stiff his body was from where he slept.

 

Namine opened her eyes halfway, gazing down at the table again. She wasn't going to think about any of that; she couldn't allow herself to get worked up over it. So what if Smith had tormented her in the past? This was the present, and in the present, Namine was strong enough to put her emotions behind her. At least, she hoped she was capable of doing that.

 

Roxas stretched, his arms lifting toward the ceiling until he sighed and his shoulders sagged. He started walking in the direction of the kitchen, glancing at Sora on his way out. It was then that he remembered what they had to do today, which made him run his hand through his hair. Sleep had made him forget about that part of reality.

 

Namine wasn't sure how well she was taking the news of Smith's return; she didn't focus on thinking about that. For now, she was trying not to let any emotions she was feeling surface, since taking care of Smith was much more important than anything she was feeling.
