Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

When Roxas was only greeted with silence, he arched an eyebrow. "Do you believe in guardian angels?" he asked casually, though his voice had a harsh undertone. "If you do, you can just consider me Namine's personal guardian." He stood where he was, still guarding Namine from Jeff's sight, even if the gun was already tossed aside. "If you don't, then you better start believing."

 

Jeff stood there in awe, his eyes still wide despite the fact that it had been a minute or two since the blades appeared. He couldn't believe this. Guardian angels? That explained a lot...sorta. He wasn't thinking straight, his mind clouded with fear and shock.

Namine looked over at Jeff for a brief moment before returning her gaze to the back of Roxas' head. She was still trembling, unable to stop herself. She was actually quite fortunate that she was still on her feet with how badly she was shaking.

 

"Namine's more than just a person to me," Roxas continued, his anger coming through in his voice as he got defensive of the girl he loved. "She's my Light, the kind of Light that this world needs! And people like you, you're all Darkness. I was meant to defend her from your kind of evil, and I'm not gonna let her fall to the likes of you!" His voice had risen into a loud yell by the time he finished, his words bouncing off the alley's walls. Roxas glared at Jeff, grasping his blades tightly in his hands.

 

Namine bit down harder on her lip, tears leaving her eyes and freely flowing down her cheeks at Roxas' words. What he said, along with being in shock from almost dieing, was enough to put Namine in shock so deep that she couldn't bring herself to react to the words. Not yet, anyway.

Jeff looked up at Roxas' face when he shifted the topic to Namine directly, the teen not able to see her because Roxas was directly in his path. He realized that was because Roxas really was her protector, her..."guardian angel." He still couldn't believe this was happening, but he was starting to get a better understanding about the two blonds he often antagonized.

 

In his anger, Roxas glared at Jeff with so much hatred and defense that he took things to a new level. He pulled back his arms and with a grunt flung Oathkeeper and Oblivion at Jeff, but didn't directly aim at his head. Instead, the two blades pierced the wall by the jock's head.

 

Jeff cowered, whimpering when the blades were thrown towards him. He lifted his hands to the side of his head, but after a few seconds, he realized Roxas hadn't been aiming for him at all. He had been taunting him. Before, Jeff would have taunted him right back or attacked him and insulted him but now...now everything was different. And not in a good way.

 

Roxas continued to stare at Jeff, his eyebrows furrowed seriously over his eyes. "From now on, you should think before picking battles," he advised. "And don't underestimate your opponents. They just might surprise you." He took a step toward Jeff, his voice growing low and dangerous when he spoke. "I'm going to warn you one more time, Jeff. Stay away from Namine, or you're going to have deal with me. Again."

 

Jeff lowered his hands from his head, nodding at Roxas' words. He was too frightened to take them in too deeply, but he got the gist of it just fine. He stepped out and tripped over a trash can, stumbling and nearly falling on his face. However, he quickly picked himself up and started running, turning out of the alley and leaving Roxas and Namine.

 

Roxas summoned his blades back to his sides, and he looked down at them. Somehow, he appreciated having them, for cases like this. The blond sent the blades away and looked down the alley, where Jeff had disappeared. He had a feeling he wouldn't have to deal with him anymore.

 

During the exchange between Roxas and Jeff, Namine had tried to control her trembling, trying to calm herself down now that there wasn't a threat. But she couldn't control her shaking, nor what she did next. She took a few steps forward and wrapped both of her arms around one of Roxas', her head facing into his coat. T-thank you, she thought, the voice in her head even sounding shaky after everything.

 

Roxas turned his head at the touch, seeing Namine against him now. Her touch seemed to wash all of his anger toward Jeff away, leaving him with nothing but exhaustion, a pounding head, and a bleeding lip. Regardless, Roxas silently brought up his free arm, setting his hand lightly on the side of Namine's head and in her hair. It was finally over.

 

Namine took in a ragged breath, feeling Roxas' hand in her hair as she held him, still trembling. She even felt as if her teeth were chattering from the fright and terror and everything else she had just experienced within the past five minutes. Tears ran down her face freely, the girl unable to control how she was reacting to things.

 

Roxas stopped himself before he moved his head to kiss Namine's hair, knowing that it would only result in pain for his lip and blood in her golden hair. He looked at what he could see of her face, gently running his hand along the length of her hair. "Let's go home," he said then, voice soft. Right now, he just wanted to get out of this cold weather and somewhere cozy, wanting nothing more than to rest.

 

Namine nodded slightly, though she didn't undo the hold she had on Roxas' arm. She heard the softness behind his voice, and it was helping her calm down a little bit, but she was still trembling and crying. As much as she wanted to stop herself, it just wasn't happening.

 

Roxas could feel Namine's body against his arm, and the shaking that was occurring. The boy's eyes softened sadly at the sight, but he didn't think there was anything he could do right now. He didn't feel so great himself, so the best thing he figured they could do right now was go back home.

 

Namine sniffled after a moment, releasing Roxas' arm halfway by removing her left arm. She turned her head away a little bit and brought up her hand, wiping at the tears without really thinking about it. They were in the middle of an alley, and there was no longer a reason to stay there. It was time to go home.

 

Roxas's hand came back to rest at his side, but he let Namine continue to hold onto his arm. He was relieved that she was alright; Jeff shot at her, and nearly killed her. Of course, Roxas didn't let that happen, but it still shook him up a little bit. He tried to make the feeling that began to wash over him vanish, needing to focus on getting home. Once he was there, he could let his emotions spill out.

 

Namine wiped at her cheeks with the sleeve of her coat, trying to dry them off. She was starting to regain control of herself, even if she was still trembling a little bit. Once she felt she did all she could to get rid of the tears, she lowered her hand to her side. In her mind, she realized she had to let go of Roxas' arm, and she did it slowly, bringing her other arm to her side as well.

 

When Namine let go of Roxas's arm, he wordlessly reached for her hand. He didn't want her touch to disappear. Not right now. As angry as he had been, he had been terrified, just as he told Jeff. He needed to relax, and evidently so did Namine. It was going to take a while for Roxas to leave her side now, not that he wanted to.

 

Feeling Roxas grab her hand made Namine feel more emotions coming up, tears reappearing in her eyes as well. She shut her eyes and lowered her head for a second, taking in a shaky breath before releasing it. She needed to calm down; it was a long walk home and she couldn't be this shaken up the whole way there.
