Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas nodded faintly, though he still disagreed. He wished he could have been there for her the last few hours, instead of being unconscious. True, he had passed out from exhaustion and his pain mixed together, which had been brutal. But he remembered wishing he could return back to the emptiness of the darkness, just for a while longer. If he had done that, Namine would have had to suffer alone longer, and he didn't want that.

 

Namine saw Roxas' nod out of the corner of her eye before she lowered her gaze to her lap again, seeing her free hand sitting there. Without thought, she brought up the hand and tucked back a strand of blond hair. She was trying to avoid thinking over everything for the millionth time, but unfortunately for her, she had a great eye for detail. And every time she thought about any of it, she remembered something new and painful about it.

 

Another round of pain engulfed Roxas's body, making his grasp on Namine's hand tighten as he tensed up and closed his eyes. He decided that he was sick of this pain; he needed some medicine. A lot of it. Stupid Jeff. Roxas wished he could have beaten the jock worse, hoping he was feeling just as much pain as the blond was right now.

 

Namine looked over at Roxas, feeling him squeeze her hand. She saw the look on his face, and her eyes softened. "You need anything?" she asked without thought, concern in her voice. He looked like he didn't feel good at all, and that made Namine feel sad.

 

Roxas exhaled in relief when the pain lessened for a moment, the boy's shoulders slumping a little. "Just some painkillers," he said, thinking of how much he just wanted the pain to go away. It was annoying and aggravating, and it hurt. Bad.

 

Namine nodded slightly, focusing her attention on Roxas instead of her dark memories. She squeezed his hand lightly before she rose to her feet, gently sliding her hand out of his grasp. "Be right back," she promised him softly, standing in front of the couch for a moment before she started toward the bathroom to get medicine.

 

Roxas nodded slightly, following her with his eyes before letting them fall on Ty, who was still sleeping on his feet. The blond sighed softly, wishing that things were a little better. Through his adrenaline and rage, he hadn't felt any pain. He kind of wished he was like that, just so all of this hurt would disappear. But Namine wouldn't like that, so he didn't think about it a second longer.

 

Namine got two pills out of her bathroom and grabbed a clean glass she kept in their as well before she headed back out to the living room, seeing both of the boys in the same positions she had left them in. She approached Roxas on the couch, pills in one hand and glass of water in the other. "Here," she said softly, holding them out towards him.

 

Roxas looked up at Namine and automatically reached up, taking the glass and pills from her hands. "Thanks," he said then. He popped the pills in his mouth and brought the glass of water to his lips, forcing them down. He hoped they worked quickly.

 

"Mmhmm," Namine hummed, looking at Roxas a moment longer before she sat down on the couch beside him, her eyes on Ty so that she wouldn't disturb Roxas while he was taking his medicine. She felt weird to herself, probably because...well, she didn't know. Everything that happened just made her feel so jumbled that she hardly recognized herself at that moment.

 

Roxas managed to gulp down all the water, and when he was finished he leaned forward to set his glass on the coffee table. He winced at the pain in his back when he performed the movement, and he slowly leaned back into the couch again, sighing. "I hope those pills work fast," he thought aloud, voice soft.

 

Namine heard Roxas' soft voice, and she couldn't think of anything to say to that, so she just hummed a "mmhmm." Obviously she wasn't too talkative at that time. She was composed on the outside, but on the inside, she just wanted to break down and cry. But Roxas was injured; she had to be strong and not depend on him. Even if she needed him now more than ever, she couldn't put that pressure on him.

 

Roxas leaned his head against the back of the couch, and then slowly turned his head toward Namine. He blinked once, exhaling a soft breath as he tried to relax. However, that was hard after everything that just occurred, and the vibe he was beginning to feel. "You can talk to me if you want," Roxas said then, his voice weak. He silently wondered if the pills would cause him to be drowsy; he wasn't sure if he wanted to sleep again or not.

 

Namine shrugged slightly, wrapping her arms around her stomach. "I'm alright," she lied softly, keeping her gaze down towards the carpet. She wasn't sure if Roxas would buy that lie or not, and she wasn't sure which one she wanted him to do. She didn't like keeping things from him, but now didn't feel like the right time to talk about whatever she was feeling anyway, considering Roxas' physical state.

 

Roxas furrowed his eyebrows slightly at Namine's response, but he closed his eyes nonetheless. "Okay," he replied softly, though he didn't really believe her. Namine hadn't taken the events with Smith well, and Jeff was nearly as bad. He tried to kill her, and she was alright? Roxas wasn't even alright, which was saying something. But then again, things had changed while he was away, and Namine was different in certain aspects as well; maybe this was one of them.

 

Namine exhaled a soft breath, unwrapping her arms from around her stomach as she lifted up her legs, setting her feet on the couch in front of her. She wrapped her arms around her legs and then lightly set her chin on her knees, looking at the wall in front of her. She couldn't tell if Roxas believed her or not, but he had at least let the subject drop.

 

Roxas let the silence engulf him again as he tried to relax. He could still feel Ty on top of his feet, the dog obviously asleep. He was keeping Roxas's feet warm, regardless. The boy felt a sharp pain in his back another time, and he took in a deep breath through his nose to try to breathe through it. He'd dealt with worse, he was sure. But he was too tired to try and think of an example.

 

Namine shut her eyes, lowering her head slightly so part of it was hidden behind her knees. She wasn't alright...not at all. But she couldn't place the burden on Roxas, even if he offered to listen. He was the one who needed care, not her. Right?

 

The pain faded after a long minute, and Roxas's form sank back into the couch as he exhaled a soft breath. The silence around him was both comfortable and uneasy, though he couldn't really explain why. He let it be, not having the energy to really question anything right now.

 

Namine opened her eyes, chasing away the thoughts. Right, of course Roxas was the one who needed care. Not her; she was stronger than that. "You wanna watch a movie or something?" she asked randomly, forcing herself to make the suggestion so that she could avoid being convinced that the thoughts she just pondered over were lies. And anyway, a movie would be good. It would keep things from being too quiet, at least for a little while.
