Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Kairi stood behind Namine and shrugged, her hands linked behind her back again. "I'm sure he's fine," she assured her friend. Roxas was inside anyway; Ty was probably entertained watching the kid cook.

 

"Mmm," Namine hummed, agreeing. Sometimes, she was just too worried over her pet. She loved him, and she always took good care of him. Setting the thoughts aside, she stuck her key in the knob and turned it, her other hand landing on the doorknob and twisting it. Or rather, trying to twist it. Namine looked down at it, confused. Why wasn't the door opening?

 

Kairi switched her gaze from the covered window to Namine, her eyebrows pulling together. "What's wrong?" she asked. She was glad she sounded convincing, because she knew exactly what had happened to the door.

 

Namine tried turning the knob again, but it didn't move at all. "The door won't open," she stated, confusion in her voice. That was strange; she had never experienced any problems with the front door before. But then again, she supposed that there was a first time for everything.

 

Kairi bit her lip, putting on the act. "Hmm. Maybe you should try the back door," she suggested, knowing that was the only other way into the house anyway. Once they got inside, she'd go straight to Namine's room and carry on with what she had in mind, then take her to Roxas.

 

Namine tried getting in through the front door once more, but then she realized there was no way of getting in. "I guess we're gonna have to," she said, agreeing. They'd have to walk through a few inches of snow to get there, but it was their only option at that point.

 

"Okay," Kairi said, tucking a few strands of her dark red hair behind her ear. Roxas, please be almost ready, she thought internally, turning her head to look to the side of the house, what they'd have to go around in order to get to the back door.

 

Namine pulled the key out of the lock, sticking it back in her purse. "That sure is bizarre," she murmured, still confused as to why it wasn't working. Oh well; she'd have to take a look at it later. She knelt down and picked up her shopping bag, glancing at Kairi before she started off her porch and through the yard to the door that led into her fence-off backyard.

 

Kairi followed Namine's footsteps, trailing in the deep snow. She knew that it didn't matter if Roxas was ready yet, because she had to fix Namine up and convince her to put her dress on again. She was still curious as to how she was going to do that, but she had to come up with a way.

 

Namine messed with the latch on the door, opening that door without a problem. If only the front door opened that easily, she mused. She mentally shrugged it off and walked into her backyard, trusting that Kairi would be right behind her.

 

Kairi shut the gate behind her once she was through, following Namine further. As she walked through the backyard, she pulled out her phone and secretly texted Roxas; if Namine asked questions, she would just say she was texting Nathan...who had actually texted her not long ago. Once this was through, she would text him back, but she needed to focus on Roxas and Namine right now. She typed: In backyard. Almost ready? She then pressed Send and flipped her phone shut, continuing to follow Namine.

 

Namine walked through her backyard and then to the back steps, walking up them cautiously in case they were icy. But she made it to the top without a problem, so she then hung her shopping bag on her wrist and went through her purse to get out her key again. She really should have just kept it in her hand, but she hadn't been thinking about that at the time.

 

Roxas dodged Ty as he made his way to the counter to pick up his phone, a spoon in his hand. He read Kairi's text and knew he had to hurry; he was still cooking the meal. He then texted: Stall. 20 min. He was already dressed in a deep blue dress shirt and nice pants, so his attire for the occasion was set. He just had to finish the meal and light the candles in the dining room, and then get set up at the piano and he'd be ready. Hopefully Kairi could keep Namine in her room until then.

 

Namine finally found her key after what felt like forever and pulled it out, holding it in her right hand. Sometimes, this purse just feels like a black hole, she thought, amused at how easily things could be lost in a relatively small bag. She stuck the key in the doorknob, preparing to go inside.

 

Kairi heard her phone chime and read the text. She didn't reply, already aware that Roxas knew she would do her best. She shut her phone and stuck it in her back pocket before looking up at Namine, seeing that she managed to get the back door open.

 

Namine opened the door and turned to face Kairi for a second, seeing that she was reading a text message. She assumed it was from Nathan, though, so she just left it alone. She stepped inside, the living room dim because it was now the evening. She turned on a light and then turned around to make sure Kairi wasn't distracted by the text. Namine didn't want to seem rude, but she didn't want the heat escaping her home.

 

Kairi climbed the steps carefully, her phone already in her pocket; she couldn't risk dropping it if she slipped. She carefully climbed the back steps and followed Namine inside, noting how quiet Roxas was being. Good, Namine wouldn't suspect anything. Hopefully.

Roxas went back to stirring the spaghetti noodles, feeling slightly relieved when he checked the recipe card that their time in the pot was almost done. The sauce was almost done as well, so there wouldn't be much time left on the food. At least, he hoped not.

 

Namine shut the door behind Kairi since she was closer to that spot, the girl feeling relieved when the cold air couldn't get in anymore. She turned her head toward the front door, thinking that she wanted to go see why it wasn't working earlier. But then a golden streak rushed for her, and she forgot about what she wanted to do. "Hey, Ty," she cooed, kneeling down and giving her pet an rub-down.

 

Kairi looked down at the dog as she slipped off her wet shoes near the back door. "He never fails to greet anyone, does he?" she said softly, smiling down at the pup. Ty always found Namine, no matter where she was. Of course, she recognized that whenever she came over with Roxas sometimes that he ran straight to the boy. Apparently Roxas was Ty's second favorite, other than Namine herself.

 

Namine shook her head softly, a smile appearing on her lips. "Nope," she said, agreeing with Kairi. Ty always ran over to the door whenever anybody came in, unless he was sleeping. "You're just too loving, huh boy?" she cooed, petting her dog. However, Ty responded in a way she didn't expect he turned around and ran off to the entrance hall, which connected to the kitchen. Hm. That dog hardly ever runs off that quickly, she thought, confused.
