Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas arched an eyebrow at Sora slightly, having expected another form of a greeting. He disregarded it, stepping out of the way and wordlessly letting Sora inside. Something was obviously the matter, and he wondered if it had anything to do with being sent home, much like what had happened to him.

 

Sora stepped in past Roxas, furrowing his eyebrows a little bit when he was inside the warm house. Roxas must have been wondering what was up, so he had no choice but to tell him. "I just saw Kairi," he said simply. Roxas could probably figure out the rest, since he had been home about two months himself.

 

Roxas shut the door, feeling a serious aura wrap around him at Sora's words. That only meant one thing. "And Nathan was there," he concluded, turning to his Somebody. It was clear by Sora's voice that things hadn't gone so great, as well as his appearance. But it was also obvious by the way that Roxas spoke that he didn't think too highly of this new relationship either.

 

Sora nodded, turning to face Roxas. His facial expression reflected a bit of surprise, but he was pretty calm for figuring out what happened while hew as gone. He would sort out his emotions later; right now, he needed to know how this happened. "Was she with him when you returned?" he asked, trying to get a better understanding of the situation.

 

"Unfortunately," Roxas said, crossing his arms as he stared at the boy across from him. "I was just as surprised as you are, though I think you're handling it better than I did." He moved one of his arms and rubbed the back of his head, moving his feet and going on ahead into the living room, knowing that Sora would most likely follow.

 

Sora followed Roxas, hearing the words his friend spoke. "It's a little too early to make that assumption," he muttered, frowning at the ground. He was calm and composed now, but when he was by himself...Well, he didn't know how he would react. He changed a lot in the past few months; so much so that he didn't know how he would deal with this when it sank in.

 

Roxas sat back down in his chair, but he didn't bother picking up his controller; Sora obviously came here to talk, especially about Kairi. He wasn't sure how to respond to his last words, but Roxas did come up with a question. "What exactly happened?" he asked.

 

Sora sat down in another chair so that he could see Roxas, though he wasn't looking up. He sat forward in his seat and let his elbows rest on his legs, his hands clasping. "I got home. I went to her house. He answered the door. The three of us had a quick conversation. I politely excused myself." He didn't go deep into details, figuring that the short interaction he had with both Kairi and Nathan weren't overly important right now.

 

Roxas's eyebrows furrowed over his blue eyes as he looked at Sora, taking in his posture and absorbing his explanation. "In other words, it didn't go well," he said, voicing his thoughts. It was obvious by now that something had gone wrong; it didn't take a genius to figure that out. Sora was upset, and hearing more about this Nathan guy made Roxas mad as well.

 

Sora shook his head, looking down at the ground. "No, it didn't," he said simply. There wasn't much more he could say than that. Kairi hadn't shown any signs that she was happy to see him, though he could see in her eyes that she felt bad over what he found when he got home. But perhaps that was only pity. He honestly didn't know what to think, which was why he came to Roxas.

 

Roxas ran a hand through his hair, sighing. "This Nathan guy just keeps stirring up trouble," he said lowly, staring down at the floor. Not much good had come from him, at least toward Kairi's friends. Everybody but her felt there was something wrong about the two being an item, but of course she didn't think so.

 

Sora looked up at Roxas when he heard the words, his frown deepening. "What do you mean?" he asked immediately. He had a hunch about this guy since the first time he looked in his eyes, but he wanted to hear what Roxas had to say before he jumped to any major conclusions.

 

Roxas shook his head slightly at the thought of the guy. "There's just something...off about him, you know?" he said, looking up at Sora. "Every time I'm around him I can't help but keep my guard up. It's like I can tell there's something different about him, but at the same time I can't figure it out." Sometimes he thought too much into things, he knew that. And he kept telling himself that he was so uneasy around Nathan because he was dating Sora's girl, who didn't realize how weird it was making things for everyone else.

 

Sora held Roxas' gaze, his friend saying what he himself had been feeling. And because he was setting aside his feelings for Kairi and thinking this through logically, he knew that his instincts were warning him about something. "He's not from here," he said, shaking his head. "When I saw the look in his eye, I saw darkness. I haven't seen a person that dark since we fought Smith." There was no way that somebody from Earth could have that much darkness in them. It was impossible.

 

Roxas's hands tightened into fists at the name, but he knew the comparison must have been logical. He looked at Sora, his expression very serious. "Are you positive?" he asked carefully, studying his Somebody's expression. This wasn't something to joke about, but he knew Sora wouldn't do such a thing, no matter who or what stood in the way of Kairi.

 

Sora nodded solemnly. "Unfortunately, I am." Kairi was in a more dangerous position than she could possibly realize, since she couldn't sense the darkness in other people. It was a skill he had sharpened during the last few months, so if his instincts told him Nathan was bad news, then that was the reality. His instincts hadn't let him astray in a long time.

 

Roxas lowered his eyes to the floor, leaning forward and burying his head in his hands. Great, so now Kairi was in danger? "She has no idea," he said, voice tight. How were they supposed to explain that to her? Was there any way Kairi could even tell something was fishy about Nathan at all?

 

"And as long as I have a say in it, she won't know anything is up," Sora said seriously, looking at the ground. Letting Kairi know about Nathan's darkness would only alarm her. And there was always the possibility she wouldn't believe him; as somebody who she dated four months ago, she would only believe that Sora was holding a grudge.

 

"Then what do you suggest we do?" Roxas asked, lifting his head to look at the other person in the room. "Keeping that kind of secret from Kairi can't possibly do any good." If anything, it would only make things worse; she would be in Nathan's hands longer, which could do more harm than good.

 

"It would be worse if she knew the truth," Sora said, looking down at the ground. "If Nathan sensed that Kairi was onto him, then he could hurt her and I wouldn't have a chance to protect her from that." He took in a breath, forcing himself to say his next words. "For now, we need to keep this to ourselves."
