Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Nathaniel met Sora eye-to-eye, glaring right back despite his condition. "There's great power in darkness. If you paid attention, you would have seen that in your Nobody," he began. "Look him in the eye the next time you see him and think about what you see. He knows, and he's gradually giving in. I could see it, and when I saw him, I knew that you were the reason he returned home." The Prince's hands balled into fists as he fought off the pain, his face remaining composed. "Of course, that wasn't the only way I knew about your progress."

 

Sora growled defensively, only keeping Nathaniel alive because of the last thing that he said. He was uncomfortable with how Nathaniel spoke about Roxas, and he felt his hatred growing stronger, which he thought had been impossible.

 

"My father is skilled with darkness," Nathaniel continued, realizing that Sora obviously wanted to hear more. "If he could summon Heartless strong enough to alert your King, don't you think he would be able to monitor your progress without a problem?" Sora must have thought Nathaniel's father was a fool, probably because his son was so easily defeated.

 

Sora snarled, opening his right hand and summoning his Keyblade. "That's all I need to know," he said darkly. He didn't want to hear anything else; it was time to kill Nathaniel and be done with it. He was sick of hearing what he had to say, and sick of realizing how he had been set up. Was his father responsible for the illusion Heartless? The thought tugged at the back of Sora's mind, making him blink in surprise.

 

Nathaniel's eyes darted to the Keyblade and he felt odd. He wasn't sure what washed over him then, but he didn't care anymore. "I'm willing to accept my fate," he said, knowing these would be his last words. "But I'm wondering if my father will be the same..." Once he finds out his son has been murdered, he thought silently. Regardless, Nathaniel looked up at Sora, his green eyes on the other's blue.

 

"Like father like son," Sora muttered, frowning. "If your father tries to avenge your death, then he'll deal with me, not Kairi." He pointed his blade at Nathaniel, his eyes turning as hard as stone. "But first you have to be dead," he said through his teeth. And he was about to make that a reality. He felt the tip of his blade glow with a white light, the teen planning on using the power of Light to defeat this evil Prince.

 

Nathaniel exhaled a breath, staring at the glowing tip of the blade. He didn't say anything, and instead only smirked. It was about time the Keyblade wielder took action.

Kairi glanced over at the boys and when she saw Sora's position, and his blade, she had to look away. She brought a hand to her mouth, turning her back to the scene as she felt moisture form in her eyes. She stared down at the street, not daring to move.

 

Sora grunted at the smirk, his anger intensifying. He kicked Nathaniel in the head, taking the action he had been desiring to do for a very long time. He then took a step back, a beam of light leaving the tip of his Keyblade and hitting the Prince full of darkness.

 

The kick to the head was enough to stun Nathaniel, but it was the beam of light that shot out of Sora's blade that did the job. Nathaniel let out a cry of pain as the light pierced the darkness within him, and in a matter of seconds, his voice faded and the air around him blurred. He then disappeared from existence.

Kairi's body froze at the cry, and once it could no longer be heard, she knew he was gone. She took in a breath and forced the moisture in her eyes to go away. She had no reason to cry over him, none at all. He tricked her into falling for him, believing him when he said sweet things to her, and making her think she was happy with somebody like him. After everything, she realized that it was all a lie, but a part of her knew the feelings she had experienced had been real.

 

Sora summoned his Keyblade away, his hand becoming a fist as he stared at the ground where Nathaniel had been laying. He knew that he was gone for good; the darkness lingering in the air was gone. Sora winced at the pain he felt in his aching body, adrenaline starting to fade away. He felt as if he was going to collapse, but he knew that wasn't an option. He shifted the focus to Kairi instead, turning his head to look at her.

 

Kairi knew that fact alone was what was causing her to be so emotional right now, but she felt it would be stupid to react that way over someone who was so deceitful and dark. How couldn't she have seen it earlier? Before it was too late? The redhead kept her hand over her mouth, not moving from her spot.

 

Sora's eyes softened at the look on Kairi's face, his anger fading away. For now. He cautiously approached her, not moving too close because she may have been afraid of him. "I'm taking you home," he declared softly. Whether Kairi wanted him to or not, she was too shaken up to walk by herself. He would stay with her to make sure that she got home.

 

Kairi's gaze stayed locked on the street, the girl afraid to have Sora see what all was surely expressed in her eyes. She nodded wordlessly, her hand remaining over her mouth for the moment. She was afraid it would shake if she moved it, and Sora would see the trembling in her lips. Right now, Kairi was an emotional wreck.

 

Sora was aware that he was holding his breath as he took one step closer, lifting a hand and setting it on Kairi's upper back. He hoped that it didn't hurt emotionally in any way; he needed to keep a hand on her back to lead her in the right direction. It was getting dark outside, so it was time to leave.

 

Kairi turned her head toward Sora slightly, but she didn't lift her eyes. She pressed her lips together before lowering her hand and crossing her other arm over her chest, hugging her torso. She was glad Sora was taking her home; that was the only place she wanted to be.

 

Sora was glad that Kairi didn't flinch away from his touch; that meant she wasn't afraid of him. Or she was too shaken up to react to him. He exhaled a silent breath and gently led her forward, taking her in the direction of her home.

 

Kairi didn't even realize she was at her house until Sora guided her up the steps to her porch. She had been silent the whole way, not that she could speak anyway. Too much had happened too fast, and it was all heartbreaking. She really wasn't sure what she was going to do now, after everything that had happened, all the things she had learned. Moving on seemed hard for her now.

 

As they approached Kairi's front door, Sora was aware that it was probably locked. But he assumed that Kairi had a key on her, so he stayed silent, figuring that she would open the door. If she acted as if she were in too much of a daze, then he would get her spare key from under the mat and use that.

 

Kairi stopped in front of the door alongside Sora and looked at it for a short moment. It was then that she dug into her coat pocket, pulling out her keys. She took a step closer to the door and with a shaky hand stuck the key in the lock, turning it before she heard the door unlock. She pulled her key out and then wordlessly pushed the door open, the darkness of her home greeting her.

 

Sora noticed Kairi's trembling hand, and he felt his concern for her grow. He kept his hand on her upper back, gently wanting to lead her inside. She needed to sit down, or better yet, sleep. Sometimes, it was better to get away from reality than face it head on.
