Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Kairi stepped into the house, pushing the door open more as she went inside. Darkness was all she saw. It was all she should have seen recently, but she was too blind to see anything but the good in him. The redhead bit her lip as she moved forward to allow Sora inside, walking a few steps further into the house and flipping a lightswitch. Her hallway was immediately lit up.

 

Sora noticed by the way that Kairi walked in that she had left room for him, and that was his silent invitation to enter her home. He stepped inside, taking two steps in and then shutting the door so that the cold air wouldn't come into Kairi's home any longer. He stepped on his injured foot and he winced, setting a hand against the wall so that he didn't fall to his knees in pain.

 

Kairi stood with her back to the door, her keys clanking in her trembling hands. She grasped them tightly, trying to make it stop. She walked forward, her shoes and coat still on as she put the keys on a table in the hallway.

 

Sora leaned a shoulder against the wall, taking the pressure off his injured ankle. He would have gone to get ice for it, but he couldn't take his eyes off of Kairi. She seemed so...broken. Shattered. His eyes were soft as he gazed at her, concerned for her. She wasn't taking this well at all, not that he expected her to in the first place.

 

Kairi didn't move from that spot. She stood there, staring down at the keys on the table. He had found a way inside her heart when it had been so vulnerable, and then just broke it. How could somebody do that to a person? It was terrible to know that she had truly been heartbroken, and by darkness. That's what was worse.

 

"Kairi," Sora called softly, seeing how she was just standing there. Surely she was thinking over everything, and he could tell that it was only making things worse. She needed to sleep and forget this whole thing, even if she could only do that for a limited time.

 

Kairi's thoughts dispersed at her name, the girl taking in a breath. She turned her head to look over her shoulder, but she could only see Sora out of the corner of her eye. She couldn't face him, not yet. Tonight was too much for her, and even thinking about confronting Sora made her heart hurt more.

 

"Go to bed," Sora said gently. Staying awake wasn't doing her any good; obviously her thoughts just kept haunting her. He could only hope and pray that when she was sleeping, nothing would trouble her.

 

Kairi lowered her sight at the words, turning her head and looking at the table in front of her once more. She was somehow relieved by those words, wanting an escape from this devastating reality. But at the same time, she didn't think she would sleep peacefully tonight. And there were other things to deal with.

 

"Go," Sora encouraged softly, shutting his eyes and lowering his head. He himself was drained, but he felt like he should walk home. Kairi probably didn't want his company tonight. Unless, of course, she let him know otherwise. That was doubtful, though; she hadn't spoken to him for a very long time.

 

"Sora." Kairi surprised herself with speaking his name, setting one hand on the table in front of her as she stood there. After a minute, she turned around and slowly lifted her eyes from the floor, finally looking up at the boy that had rescued her, again.

 

Sora opened his eyes and looked up, surprised that Kairi said his name, and how she said it. She didn't sound angry at him at all, like he half-expected. After all, he had killed somebody that she loved. He chased those thoughts away, looking into her eyes and seeing the question that lingered in them. "I'll stay for the night," he assured her. "I'll be on the couch."

 

Kairi found it hard to hold Sora's gaze, and after a minute, she nodded and her eyes fell to the floor again. She didn't want to be alone tonight, and she was grateful that she didn't have to ask. The girl tucked her red hair behind her ear and wordlessly started down the hall, turning the corner to reach her room.

 

The moment Kairi left his sight, Sora lifted a hand and set it on his forehead, the teen exhaling a breath. What a mess, he thought, sad, angry, hurt and confused at the same time. He looked up from the floor, realizing that Kairi wasn't the only one that needed to sleep and get away from the thoughts of today. With that realization, he started towards the living room, feeling like if he didn't sit down, he would faint from exhaustion and pain.

 

Kairi finally reached her room and shut the door behind her. She slipped off her shoes and coat, putting them both away before finding cleaner clothes. She threw on a oversized t-shirt and pajama pants before climbing into bed, doing it all without thought. She didn't want to think anymore, about anything.

 

Before Sora sat down, he went to the kitchen and got an icepack for his ankle. He also went to the bathroom and got out stuff so that he could take care of his wounds, the teen knowing that infection was a big risk. Once all that was taken care of, he laid down on the couch, icepack on his ankle and shoes on the ground in front of the sofa.

 

Kairi pulled the covers over her body and rolled onto her side, looking out her window. She didn't know what time it was, but the moon was out and she could see the house next door. Regardless, she didn't really care; she just wanted to sleep. Kairi took in a breath and closed her eyes, knowing that probably wasn't going to be that easy.

 

Sora felt light-headed the moment his head hit the pillow on the side of the couch, the brunet grunting without thought. He wasn't used to feeling such weakness, mostly because he was always in full health before he fell asleep. In this case, though, he couldn't Cure himself and get rid of the pain. Only sleep could do that, for a short while. He shut his eyes and felt himself pass out immediately, darkness taking him under.

 

Kairi kept her eyes closed, refusing to open them for any reason. She knew that the silence was only going to welcome her thoughts, which she didn't want to go over again. Something would lead to him again and... Kairi turned her head farther into her pillow, feeling the tears coming back. It was no use; her heart was broken, and she couldn't ignore that.

 

The next morning...

Sora had woken up with the sun, used to getting a limit time of sleep each night. It didn't bother him anymore; his body was used to it. Now he sat on the couch, inspecting his ankle. It looked better than it had last night, but it was definitely hurt. All because of that stupid building crumbling, that occurring because that stupid, no good...He sighed, furrowing his eyebrows. He couldn't get angry right now; he needed to save that for when he was in his own home.
