Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Kairi continued to sleep, but not peacefully. Her memories of the day before had haunted her in her dreams right after she cried herself to sleep, turning what she had hoped to be nothingness into nightmares. Her eyebrows were pulled together as she frowned in her sleep, the uncomfortable rest continuing on.

 

Sora set his feet on the ground, leaning back into the couch as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his cell phone. Roxas. He needed to talk to Roxas. The blond was like a brother to him, and if anybody would listen to what he had to say, it would be him. He fumbled with the phone for a minute, not used to the technology, before he found Roxas' number and called it, the brunet bringing his phone to his ear.

 

Roxas was sleeping soundly when his phone started to ring, loudly, on his nightstand. The boy grumbled as he lifted his head and turned it to the other side, glaring through half-opened eyes at the device. He lifted an arm and grabbed it, not bothering to check the caller ID as he flipped it open and put it next to his ear. "Hello?" he mumbled.

 

"Roxas?" Sora said immediately, hearing that his friend was mumbling. You woke him up. Idiot. He brought a hand to his forehead and exhaled a silent breath, calming himself down. He had Roxas on the phone now, so hopefully he could still talk. He just needed to talk things out instead of thinking them through a hundred times in his mind.

 

Roxas arched a brow, his eyes closed again. "Sora?" he said back, momentarily confused because of his grogginess. He opened one eye and looked at his alarm clock, seeing that it was around seven, which meant the sun had just come up. Why was he calling him so early in the morning?

 

"Sorry. I wasn't thinking how early in the morning it was," Sora said honestly, shutting his eyes. "I just...needed to talk to somebody." He had a hard time admitting that, because he wasn't used to depending on others anymore. The last time he had depended on somebody too heavily was with the illusion Heartless, and that was over a month ago.

 

Roxas turned over in his bed and rubbed his face, trying to get himself to wake up. He heard the tone of Sora's voice and knew that he couldn't dismiss this phone call. "What's wrong?" he asked, trying to think of anything that could have possibly been important. His sleepiness was really clouding his mind; he knew then that he really did have to wake up.

Kairi whimpered slightly in her sleep, feeling fear. She clutched at the pillow her head was resting on, seeing nothing but darkness around Nathan, or Nathaniel, in her dreams.

 

Sora kept his hand to his forehead, his eyes shut as he began to explain what happened. "Nathan made his move on Kairi yesterday. He was actually a prince from a far away world, and he was faking a kidnapping with his royal guard so that he and Kairi could be 'taken' to his world, where they would rule as king and queen. I stopped that from happening." Those were the basics of it all, though there was far more too it than that.

 

Roxas had a hand in his hair as Sora spoke, and he blinked, trying to register everything that had been said. "Sora, still half-asleep over here, man," he said patiently into the phone. "You're gonna have to repeat that." He was slightly confused. Nathan made a move on Kairi and then was a prince and then what? Roxas forced himself to sit up, running his hand through his hair and then over his face. This was obviously very serious; he needed to be able to know what Sora was saying.

Kairi curled in on herself a little in her sleep, feeling threatened in her nightmares. She had seen a lot throughout the night, in her sleep, and it wasn't pleasant. It scared her, making her rest uncomfortable and not so peaceful.

 

Sora exhaled a heavy breath, frustrated with himself. Why wasn't he being clear? "Yesterday, I sensed trouble. I called Namine, and she told me she hadn't spoken to Kairi for a while, but she was on a walk with Nathan near his house. I went to check it out and I found a broken charm off of Kairi's bracelet on the ground. Then I knew something was up, so I tracked her and Nathan down." He hoped that was clear enough for Roxas; he didn't want to repeat himself.

 

"Okay," Roxas replied, finally awake now. His eyebrows were pulled together, wondering where this was going. "And?" Now that he said something, Roxas remembered Namine calling him yesterday about that conversation with Sora; she had been worried, but neither had been able to get a hold of Sora or Kairi for the rest of the day.

 

"I found them cornered in an abandoned building. Seven guards total; five in the room with them. I ambushed them all and took them out without a problem," Sora continued, remembering how easy that fight was. "The three of us had a conversation after that, and I called out Nathan, forcing him to tell me and Kairi who he was and what he wanted." This was where things got complicated, and unexpected. He hoped Roxas was awake enough to comprehend what he was about to tell him.

 

Roxas shook his head slightly, a question forming in his mind. Guards? For what? He knew they must have had something to do with Nathan, but he didn't know what for. "It's obvious what he wanted was Kairi, but for what?" the blond boy said into the phone, speaking to himself and to Sora. He remembered all the times he had seen Nathan interact with Kairi and how possessive he seemed to be of her. It was suspicious, but he focused on the conversation at hand, listening for Sora's reply.

 

Sora lowered his hand from his forehead, opening his eyes as he looked at the ground. "He revealed himself to be Prince Nathaniel of Glassice, and he came here to Earth in order to acquire Kairi and have her rule as his Princess," he said through his teeth, anger at Nathaniel coming out in his voice.

 

Roxas sat still in his bed after Sora spoke, the words settling in. Prince Nathaniel? Of Glassice? And he came here to kidnap Kairi this whole time? "...What?" Roxas said, his voice showing not only his shock, but also his anger. So that jerk really had been here on a duty of darkness, just to kidnap their friend and force her to rule with him.

 

Sora furrowed his brows and forced himself to exhaled a silent breath, calming himself down so that he could finish speaking. "Naturally, I challenged him to a fight after this. The winner decided where Kairi would go. Obviously I was the victor of the battle." If he hadn't won that fight, then he would have been dead, because that would have been the only way Nathaniel could have gotten Kairi away from him.

 

Roxas was relieved to hear that Nathaniel was no longer alive, out of the picture for good now. He then thought of somebody else that would be affected from it all. "How's Kairi?" he asked then, his voice showing his concern for his friend behind the anger and seriousness of his tone. He could only imagine how awful she must have felt.

 

Sora shut his eyes, sadness appearing on his facial expression. "She won't even talk to me," he said softly. She had said his name several times, but that was it. Sora didn't really consider that "talking". He wasn't sure what it was if it wasn't talking, but he didn't dwell on that. There were much worse things than that going on here.

 

Roxas ran a hand over his hair at the news, sighing softly into the phone. Thinking about the situation, he took in the fact that Kairi was caught completely off guard by all this, and that she probably wasn't speaking to Sora because she didn't know what to say. Or at least something along those lines.

 

"She'll hardly look at me, too," Sora said softly, hearing his friend's sigh. Kairi had only look to him in the battle, when she had been depending on him to keep her from being taken away or dying when the floor collapsed underneath them. That, and the one time when she looked at him before she went to bed. But he could tell that she had a hard time looking at him for that long, even.
