Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

"She went home," Sora responded softly, pushing away his empty cereal bowl. He looked up at his friend in the doorway, trying to read Roxas. But he couldn't gather anything out of his facial expression except concern.

Namine felt the dog lick her cheeks, wiping away the wet tears. She couldn't help but giggle through her tears; it tickled. "Easy, boy," she said, gently pushing his face away from hers. But the dog simply nuzzled his head against her neck, almost like he was giving her a hug.

 

Roxas's gaze fixed on Sora, but then fell to the floor. "Oh..." He supposed he should have figured that. Why would a girl want to stay in a house full of people she didn't know? It made sense that she left, and he accepted that.

Kairi's smile faded as she turned around in her seat, bringing a spoonful of cereal to her mouth. She felt bad, for both Roxas and Namine. They were going through almost the same thing--Namine with her memory loss, but Roxas with the emotional impact between the two blonds' relationship from that loss.

 

Sora sat silently for a moment, but then he decided the least he could do was try to comfort Roxas. "She remembered it all by herself, Roxas," he said softly. "She's getting better already." Sora didn't exaggerate with anything he said--he meant it all. Namine was starting to recover; thank goodness.

Namine felt the tears reappear, the girl returning the dog's "hug". That was what she needed most at that moment, and from somebody who wouldn't say anything that could make her feel worse. Her dog was the perfect companion that way.

 

"You mean she remembered her way home?" Roxas checked, his eyebrows raised. He saw Kairi nod in confirmation and he blinked in surprise. "Wow... That's--that's great!" He felt a little bit of hope rise within him at just the thought. Namine actually remembered some of her life...

"It's a good start, wouldn't you think?" Kairi smiled at Roxas, seeing the relief in his expression and eyes. It was obvious he was happy to hear the news, so she was sure he wouldn't deny her question.

Roxas smiled ever so slightly, nodding in agreement. The fact that she remembered her home alone was enough to convince him that this could actually work out in their favor, especially Namine's. If he knew her as well as he thought he did, he was sure her memories were just as precious to her as the rest of them.

 

Sora nodded in agreement. Namine really was getting off to a great start. After all, she had just woken up this morning. Maybe it wouldn't take too much longer for her to recover all her memories.

Namine sniffled into the dogs neck, randomly releasing him when she had an idea. "Come on, ty," she said as she rose to her feet. She pat her leg as she started toward the back door, her pet eagerly following her to her destination.

 

Roxas let his eyes relocate the floor, the boy smiling to himself. This was a good start, he had to admit. And there he was, outside, being all pessimistic and thinking the worst of things. Maybe things would get better faster than he expected... True, he was still pretty upset about Namine's situation, but at least some good things were happening for her.

 

Namine opened the back door, Ty running past her into the grassy, fenced-in area. The blond smiled softly, seeing him sniff the flowers and start sneezing. If only she had a simple life like that. She took a few steps forward, walking down the three steps before heading over to an area shaded by a tree. The moment she sat herself down against the trunk, Ty rejoined her, laying across her extended legs.

 

Roxas scratched his head. "Well..." he started, looking up at his friends, "I think I better get going too." He needed to get home anyway; he had some things to take care of. "So, I guess I'll see you guys later."

Kairi lifted a hand to wave. "Bye, Roxas," she called softly.

 

Sora gave his friend a faint wave and a small smile. "See ya, man," he said as his farewell. Over all, Roxas wasn't taking it as hard as Sora expected. But maybe that's what his retreat was before. He didn't know, and he definitely wasn't going to ask about it.

Namine pet the pooch lying on her lap, soft blue eyes on her golden retriever. "Hey boy," she murmured. "You think things will ever go back to normal?" The dog let out a bark as if to answer her question. The girl smiled weakly. "Is that a yes or a no?" she teased, her heart-treading sadness taking a step back for that moment.

 

Roxas waved with a faint smile, turning the corner and approaching the front door. He slipped on his shoes before opening the door and closing it behind him as he left. He made his way down the path and turned left on the sidewalk, heading down the street. He stuffed his hands in his pockets. The thought of Namine remembering her way home was definitely a good thing, and safe, but the fact that she didn't remember the dangerous things, like what happened in her past... That was scary, because she wouldn't know what to watch out for, or who to watch out for. But at the same time, it was a good thing, because then she wouldn't stress about it.

 

Namine received another lick in response to her question. She giggled, forgetting her troubles. And then she got an idea; one thing that she remembered from earlier was being with Sora and Kairi in the park. Maybe if she went there, she could remember more! "Wanna go for a walk, boy?" she cooed. Ty barked again, getting off her legs and standing by her side.

 

Roxas took another turn and crossed the street, only a block away from his home. He needed to freshen up a bit--take a shower and actually put on some clean clothes. And he needed to have a bite to eat, since he skipped out on breakfast due to some devastating news... The boy sighed, letting his head lower as he stared at the sidewalk.

 

Namine smiled softly, kneeling down in front of the dog. "Just give me a little bit of time, then we'll go," she promised. Her clothes looked a bit dirty, and she hadn't looked in a mirror since...well, she couldn't remember. It would only take her about half an hour to get ready, and then she and Ty could go for a walk in the park. She didn't know why, but she wanted some other presence with her while she was there. Maybe she was paranoid or something...she honestly didn't know.

 

Roxas looked up, not realizing how close he was to home until now. He walked across his lawn as soon as he was close enough and skipped up the few steps that led to the front porch. He pulled his key out of his pocket and unlocked the door, the familiar surroundings of home greeting him once he was through the door.

 

Namine went back inside, Ty following her. She gave him one last weak smile before heading for the stairs, going to get a shower and get herself cleaned up.

Roxas shut the door behind him and slipped off his shoes. After setting his key on the end table near the door, he made his way upstairs to reach the bathroom and get a nice, hot shower.

A little while later, Namine was sitting under a tree in the park, Ty sitting right beside her. She had a loose grip on the end of his leash, knowing that he wouldn't leave. That was the least of her concerns at the moment. She was hoping being in a familiar place would trigger some memories, but so far, she hadn't remembered a thing. She sight softly, wrapping an arm around her dog's back. She leaned her head lightly against him, his fur soft against her cheeks.

 

Roxas, now dressed in a black t-shirt and jeans, made his way down the streets of New York, having just left his home. He wasn't sure of his destination, but he couldn't just sit around with so much on his mind; he had to move and think at the same time. It was just how he was. He glanced up at the world around him through his sunglasses, blocking the bright shine from the sun. Things seemed peaceful, and he was glad it appeared that way.

 

Namine brushed Ty's coat lightly, blankly staring out at the lake in front of her. It was a beautiful day, but the park wasn't overly crowded. Namine guessed that a lot of people were at pools or on vacation or something. That was alright with her, though; she liked it when things weren't extremely crowded. At least, she thought she did. She sighed softly; it was so hard to know how to act or think when she couldn't even remember what she had done in the past. After all, the events of the past turn people into who they are. So...who was Namine, exactly? She couldn't answer that question.

 

Roxas sighed softly, small headphones in his ears as he carried his mp3 player in his jeans pocket. He was unaware to the noises around him, instead simply looking around. Music helped him cope, along with the fresh air. It was how he dealt with his problems, and this just happened to be a big one.
