Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Namine exhaled a silent breath, her back to the doorway as she kept her legs close to her body. Someday...someday, there'll be no more secrets, she thought, tired physically, mentally, and emotionally. She couldn't wait until the day when she could really be happy again, and with Roxas, too. It seemed like they both had changed slightly from when they had last seen each other, but she knew that they still loved each other the same. That was enough to give her comfort, even when things appeared uncertain. She sneezed into her pajama pants, a small sigh leaving her after that.

 

Roxas glanced at Namine at the noise, but continued moving toward her bed. He stopped on the other side, looking at the back of her head with the glass in hand. "You should probably take some more medicine," he suggested. "A little more sleep might help too."

 

Namine brought her head out of her knees, turning her head slightly to look at Roxas. "Has it been that long since I took medicine earlier?" she asked quietly. It had felt to her as if hardly any time had passed at all, but then again, she didn't know how long she had been asleep, either.

 

Roxas shrugged. "It's been a few hours. Another pill couldn't hurt." Namine really didn't look like she felt that good, so that was why he suggested it. "Or at least the sleep. Whichever one you want, I guess," he finished, setting the water down on the endtable beside her bed.

 

Namine nodded faintly, her bangs sticking to her slightly. "I have some more medicine in my bathroom," she said, motioning toward the room with her head. She forgot already that she had left the thermometer out, and that her fevered temperature was still on the display. Roxas would have probably seen it when he went to get medicine, but the blond wasn't thinking about that.

 

Roxas nodded once before heading toward the bathroom. He walked into the small room silently, his eyes falling on the medicine cabinet. He opened it and reached in for the bottle, looking down at it as he opened it. When he was about to reach in for a pill, he saw something on the counter by the sink. Roxas recognized it as a thermometer and immediately saw the temperature displayed.

 

Namine released her legs and set her hands in her lap, her tired blue eyes staying down in that direction. How she always managed to get sick was a mystery to her, but she had come to accept it most of the time. Today, though, she wasn't at peace at all; this illness had really come at a rotten time. And to have a fever of 103.4...well, that wasn't good, either. That was a high number, even for her.

 

Roxas instantly picked up the thermometer, forgetting about the pills for a moment. He stared at the number in a stunned silence, his eyebrows furrowing at the high temperature. Namine... She was really sick. If anything, she needed to cool down. Roxas set the device down, grabbed one pill, and put the bottle back in the cabinet before leaving the bathroom. His eyes instantly fell on Namine, seeing her face now. It was blotchy, and her bangs were slightly damp. Roxas just stood there, his eyes sad.

 

Namine looked down into her lap for a few more seconds before she sensed another presence in the room. She lifted her head and saw Roxas standing in the doorway to the bathroom. She blinked and tried to register what the expression on his face meant, but she couldn't think clearly enough to decipher it.

 

Roxas blinked once, just staring at the girl. He convinced her to mess around when she was running a high fever and looking and feeling like this? That was rotten of him. "You should take this," he said, glancing down at the pill before moving over to Namine and holding it out to her.

 

Namine nodded slightly and reached out a hand, gently taking the pill out of Roxas' outstretched hand. "Thanks," she said softly, fingering the medicine in her grasp. She noticed the glass of water on the end-table, but she couldn't reach it from where she was, and she just didn't feel like grabbing it. She decided that she wouldn't need to use it and popped the pill into her mouth, forcing herself to swallow hard to get it down.

 

"I'll just, um, go get you some ice," Roxas said, before he went around the bed and headed for the door. Namine's fever was high, and he figured the ice pack she usually kept in her fridge would do some good for her hot forehead. Roxas rubbed at the back of his head as he left the room, going down the hallway until he reached the kitchen.

 

Namine turned her body toward the door, watching Roxas leave before she could respond. Ice? She didn't want ice; she was already freezing. Thinking about how cold she felt, Namine folded her arms across her chest and shivered.

 

Roxas walked into the kitchen and immediately approached the fridge, reaching into the freezer to grab the icepack. It was cold, of course, and because of that he grabbed a small hand towel to wrap around it so it wasn't too cold on Namine's forehead. Roxas held the items in his hand as he headed back down the hallway to Namine's room.

 

Namine brought up one hand and tucked back a strand of hair before she returned to her previous position, only wrapping her arms more tightly. She was freezing cold, for some unexplainable reason. She tried figuring it out in her head, but the fever wasn't letting her think clearly.

 

Roxas entered the room, but he didn't hesitate at the door. He walked straight to Namine and stood in front of her, squatting down so he could see her face more clearly. His hand instantly lifted to rest against her forehead, gently brushing her bangs back to feel her skin.

 

Namine exhaled a silent breath through her nose, shutting her eyes at the motion without thought. His fingertips felt cool against her skin, and it was strangely refreshing. Even though the rest of her body was freezing cold, her head was hot. At least, she thought it was; she was pretty out of it, so she couldn't accurately judge her condition.

 

Roxas immediately felt Namine's feverish skin, it being hot against his palm. He brought his hand back after a minute and exhaled heavily out his nose. "The thermometer was right." Roxas's blue eyes looked up at Namine with furrowed eyebrows. "You do have a high fever," he confirmed, still holding the icepack in his grasp.

 

Namine looked down towards the ground briefly, Roxas' words registering in her mind. The thermometer...I left it out? She blinked at the thought, trying to recall exactly what had happened during the period when she was in the bathroom. It was a bit of a blur, and thinking about it made her feel dizzy.

 

"Take this," Roxas said, holding out the wrapped item in his hand. "It'll help bring the fever down." He wanted it down, that was for sure. But by the looks of it, Namine wasn't only hot--she was also cold. He frowned at the realization as he held the icepack out to her. That thunderstorm hadn't done her any good.
