Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Namine took in a silent breath and then released it, allowing herself to not think deeply. She had done a lot of that lately, and she was honestly sick of it. For this current moment, she would just let the silence be a time to enjoy and not a time to reflect on her recent life.

 

Roxas moved his head, letting his cheek rest against the top of Namine's blonde head. He stared ahead of him, at the piano, and exhaled softly. Enjoy the peace, he told himself. After all, it was rare these days.

 

Namine comfortably stayed still when she felt Roxas' cheek on her head, the girl feeling connected to him this way. No matter what, they knew they loved each other. There was no doubt about that, thank goodness. In the end, love would conquer everything else. She just knew it.

 

The next day...

Roxas walked down Namine's street, on his way back from Kairi's house. The visit had been...different. He was happy to see the redhead, as she was happy to see him. When she found out that Sora wasn't home, though, she seemed to become a little down. However, she hadn't been without comfort, but it hadn't come from Roxas. Turns out, Kairi found a new "friend" over the two months he and Sora had been away. It was obvious by the interactions between the two, though, that let Roxas know that he was more than a friend to Kairi, which the blond instantly knew was another problem he had on his hands. Sora's as well.

 

Namine sat on the couch in the living room, the television playing in front of her. She wasn't really paying much attention to it, though. Actually, she was starting to doze off for what felt like the millionth time in the past day or two. She was feeling better, but not completely, since she still had a cold. Oh well, she knew it would go away eventually. She held a mug of hot chocolate in her hands as it warmed her cool hands, the blond trying to stay awake.

 

Roxas stuffed his cold hands into his coat. He was still growing accustomed to his new-but-old surroundings, and that included the weather. What was he going to do about this new problem, though? Kairi might not have confirmed it, but Roxas knew something was going on between her and her new guy friend. One thing that had immediately popped into his head at Kairi's was this: what was Sora going to do when he found out? Roxas shook his head slightly, sighing. Just another unanswered question added to the list.

 

Namine sighed and shut her eyes, leaning her head against the side of the couch. She had to stay awake...she still had a warm mug of hot chocolate in her hands, and she couldn't drop that on the carpet. That would be a terrible pain to clean up, and she didn't feel like dealing with the stress that would come with that mistake.

 

Roxas turned onto the path leading to Namine's house, walking up to the porch and pulling the key out of his pocket. He had been over to Namine's earlier this morning, and she was the one who told him to visit Kairi, so he was naturally given a key so he could get back into the house when he was finished. Roxas unlocked the door and pushed it open, stepping inside.

 

Namine thought she heard a faint noise, but she didn't react to it, keeping her eyes shut and her head against the side of the couch. She was still tired, and she was wishing that she would have gotten more sleep lately than she had allowed herself to have. She had tried to limit her sleep because of nightmares, though she still received bad dreams every once in a while anyway.

 

Roxas kicked off his shoes once he closed the door, hanging his coat up as well. He set the spare key down on the small table in the entryway, moving in the direction of the living room. He heard the television going, so he figured that was where Namine was.

 

Namine kept a grip around the mug, just tight enough for her to keep it from dropping and spilling. She thought drinking it would keep her awake, but she despite the fact that she had made it, she wasn't drinking it now, so there was no way to tell if it would have helped her stay conscious or not.

 

"Nam?" Roxas called a few seconds before stepping into the room. Sure enough, there she was, on the couch. She was still sick after the last couple days, but he was relieved that she was better than before.

 

Namine tightened her grip on the mug, Roxas' call waking her up. "Mmm?" she hummed, turning her head to look behind the couch slightly and see Roxas in the doorway.

 

Roxas smiled slightly. "I figured you were in here," he said, leaning his shoulder against the doorway. The sound of the TV was a dead giveaway, but still. He stuffed one of his hands in his jean pocket, looking at her from where he stood. From here he could see that her cheeks were still a little rosy, but that was okay. She still looked like she was feeling better.

 

Namine smiled weakly, nodding. "Yeah..." She didn't move around much since she was still recovering from her nasty cold, so there was a limit amount of places where she would have been. She set the thoughts aside as she faced forward for a moment, leaning to the front as she placed her mug of hot chocolate on a short table in front of her.

 

"So I saw Kairi," Roxas said, his smile fading and his eyebrows furrowing. That had definitely been an interesting visit, but he was sure Namine was going to want the details. Especially by the way he started it; she was the one who sent him in the first place, so it was obvious that she knew he did. Plus, Roxas's tone had changed slightly. Although it was still normal, underneath there was a brief glimpse of nerve.

 

Namine nodded faintly and turned halfway on the couch, looking at Roxas as he stayed in his position. "Was her friend over?" she asked softly, guessing that he had been. Namine didn't quite feel right calling him Kairi's friend; he was obviously more to her than just a friend.

 

"Heh, I don't think 'friend' is the right way to describe him," Roxas replied, the small laugh in the beginning having been without amusement. This obviously wasn't a funny subject.

 

Namine lowered her gaze to the couch, lifting a hand to tuck back a strand of hair when she heard Roxas' words. "I know," she confirmed softly. After all, she had just been thinking the same thing to herself.

 

Roxas's eyes lowered to the floor at the words, focusing on a spot a few feet ahead of him. "How long have you known about him?" he asked then. Even if he wasn't looking at Namine, it was obvious by the hard expression in his eyes that he wasn't in favor of the new couple.
