Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Namine giggled. "So I see," she said with a smile. Still, she thought the truimphant tone of voice Roxas used was extremely cute. Namine blinked. Pull it together, girl, she told herself. You can't be falling for somebody when you don't even remember them or know them well.

 

Roxas let out a chuckle before turning around and shutting the closet. He faced Namine again, smile still in tact. "Shall we?" he proposed, flashlight on the floor, providing just enough light for him to see Namine's eyes.

 

Namine kept a smile on her face, nodding to Roxas. "Lead the way," she said, her voice showing some happiness. It was strange how naturally giddy she felt around Roxas. They must have been really good friends before she lost her memory.

 

Roxas nodded once, giving Namine a small grin as he passed her, his head then turning to look ahead of him. He aimed the flashlight for the most part near the floor, knowing there was no need to examine the walls. He walked down the hallway, able to hear the rain hitting the roof of his second-story home.

 

Namine's smile softened as she turned and followed Roxas, able to see things much more clearly now that the flashlight was being used to light up the area.

 

Roxas turned at the end of the hallway, entering the foyer. He glanced outside for a brief moment, seeing lightning flash and hearing thunder roar from above. The storm definitely wasn't letting up, and he couldn't be sure what time of day it was anymore by just looking outside; the sky was too dark.

 

Namine turned and followed Roxas into the foyer. Her eyes were on him until she saw a bright flash of light out of the corner of her eye. She turned slightly toward the window, her body tensing when she heard and felt a loud rumble of thunder.

 

Roxas glanced behind him to see if Namine was still following him. When he noticed her expression, however, he became concerned. He stopped walking, turning to flash the light near her. "You okay?" he called gently.

 

Namine turned, taking a few steps toward Roxas. "I'm okay," she responded softly. Just sick of this stupid storm, she thought to herself. How much longer could it last? At that moment, it looked and felt like it would go on forever. Even if she knew that wasn't true, it was still a depressing thought.

 

Roxas nodded once in understanding, his eyes staying on her for a few more seconds before he turned back around. He then started for the living room, shining the light ahead of him.

 

Namine lightly bit down on her lip for a brief moment before she started following Roxas again, mentally scolding herself for being so jumpy. It was just one stupid storm...it's not like it would hurt her.

 

"Go ahead and have a seat," Roxas encouraged, flashing the light in the direction of the couch. He passed it, though, heading toward the fireplace. He needed to get a fire going, solely for illumination; they couldn't rely on old batteries for the rest of the night.

 

Namine looked over to the couch, seeing it despite the fact that the light wasn't resting on it anymore. "Okay," she said with a nod. The blond girl headed over to the seat and gracefully sat herself down. Her eyes wandered over to the window just as a bolt of lightning lit up the sky. That momentary light only showed how hard it was still raining outside.

 

Roxas approached the fireplace, shining the light on the mantle. He looked behind the various picture frames atop it, searching and soon finding the matches. He held the small package in his hand, then kneeling down in front of the fireplace. He put the flashlight on the floor, positioned so the light was aimed up at the ceiling and still illuminating the room. Roxas opened the matches and pulled one out, striking it against the rough surface provided. The small match lit up in a small flame, and he positioned it near the wood, hoping it would catch a flare.

 

Namine kept her eyes on the window. The storm wasn't only literally happening...in a way, it represented what was going on with her. Her memories were nonexistent as far as she was concerned. Sure, they were buried deep inside her heart, but since she had no access to them, it didn't make a difference where they were. One thing was for sure; she just wanted things to be normal again....whatever that meant.

 

Finally. Roxas brought his hand back once the flames started to lick the wood, waving the match until there was a stream of smoke coming from it. He turned the flashlight off as the orange glow filled the room, standing up. Well, that was done. Now they just had to wait for the power to come back on.

 

Namine blinked. What was she supposed to do until her memories came back? Would they come back? The thought startled her...a lot. But she refused to accept that she would be in this condition forever. She would remember everything...eventually. The only thing she could do was wait and hope that it wouldn't take very long. She just wanted for things to be right again. She wanted it so badly.

 

Roxas looked over in the direction of the couch, seeing Namine just sitting there. In fact, she looked a little upset, which strengthened the concern within him. He gazed at her for a moment, wishing there was something he could do. One of her favorite beverages came to mind, and so he started out of the room, heading back to the kitchen with flashlight in hand.

 

Namine exhaled a silent breath, bringing a hand up to her face to brush back some bangs that were in her eyes. They fell right back down, and she didn't bother trying to correct it. She really wasn't sure what to think or do anymore. Actually, she didn't want to dwell on anything or perform any actions. She just wanted to sleep and be out of the world until her memories returned. But she knew that unless her memories magically reappeared during this night, she would have to face reality again.

 

Roxas navigated his way toward the kitchen, shining the flashlight on the counter and finding the mugs. He went over to them and suddenly he thought of something--he only had two hands... Two mugs and a flashlight... He didn't think about this, but he knew the layout of his house by heart. So there was nothing really to fret. The boy shut off the flashlight and stuck it in his back pocket, picking up the two mugs and turning in the darkness to head back to the living room.
